The Heaton Park volunteers and maintenance group have asked if we can help out with a few tasks over the summer months in the park.

First off is a litter pick on Monday evening, particularly covering some of the woodland and "off-path" areas in the park, especially following Parklife this weekend.

We'll meet at the entrance to the park close to Heaton Park Metrolink stop (M25 1JE) What3words///mess.money.park and run or walk from there to the litter hotspots. There are regular buses and Metrolinks going there from the city centre. Depending on numbers, we can cover a couple of different areas such as:

  • Grass and woodland area near the Metrolink and Papal Field
  • Woodland near the boating lake and the Tram Museum

I have council-provided bags, litter pickers, and a contact for arranging pick up of any litter we collect. If you have some gardening gloves or other gloves suitable for picking up litter, please do bring them along.

In the future, we will be doing some balsam bashing in the park alongside more gardening and green-space maintenance, so watch this space!

About GoodGym

We're a friendly and social group who combine exercise with helping out in the local community. We meet every week to get active and do a physical task to help the charities and community organisations and projects across the Manchester region.

The Run/Walk/Cycle

GoodGym is for everyone. We welcome runners of all abilities. We always have a back-marker so no-one is left behind - we're about achieving something together so you'll always be welcome no matter what your pace is.

New to GoodGym?

This is a GoodGym group run, where we run to help a local community organisation and then run back.

New GoodGymers are welcome to GoodGym group runs - no one gets left behind. You're unlikely to be alone, hundreds of new people sign up every week.

Walkable

You will be able to join a group walking to the task if you'd prefer not to run.

Options are available to run between 1km and 6km in total

Remember that we run/walk to and from the task, so you'll only be running/walking for half this distance in one go.

This is a standard GoodGym group run. If you're worried about any aspect of the session, contact us.
