Independent Newham Users Forum
INUF is an independent user-led organisation based in the borough of Newham. Our aim is to support adults diagnosed with mental illness and their carers by providing various support and activities that improve their wellbeing, build confidence and enhance their recovery. INUF has developed a safe hub and a holistic programme of support, which encompasses a range of activities that include the Drop-in, Yoga and Relaxation and Football sessions. We also provide a two day Advocacy support service and we also provide volunteering opportunities for our members and Newham residents.

This week we’ll be helping out at the Independent Newham Users’ Forum (INUF) – a user-led mental health charity based in Stratford.

INUF supports people living with mental health challenges in the borough of Newham. Their community hub at Ithaca House hosts a wide range of wellbeing activities including drop-ins, yoga, art, dance and other sessions that help people connect, express themselves and thrive.

We’ll be lending a hand in their communal mental health garden, which needs a spring clean-up. The garden provides a safe, calming outdoor space that supports mental wellbeing, social connection and therapeutic activities. Tidying it will make the garden more accessible and enjoyable for service users, volunteers, staff and other building tenants. A well-maintained garden encourages outdoor activity, reduces isolation and creates a positive environment for recovery and community engagement.

Tasks are likely to include:

  • Weeding beds and borders
  • Clearing fallen leaves and debris
  • Pruning overgrown plants
  • Tidying pathways
  • Preparing planting areas

Everyone is welcome to join - no previous experience is required and all tools and instructions will be provided.

How to join

There are two ways to join:

  • Option 1 – Run from the Aquatics Centre (sign-up above)
Meet at Stratford Aquatics Centre and we’ll leave together at 18:45 to run to the task.

  • Option 2 – Meet at the task
Meet us directly at Ithaca House at 19:00.

Whichever option you choose, we’ll spend around an hour helping in the garden. Come along for some fresh air, teamwork and the chance to make a real difference to a community space. 🌱
