Due to adverse weather conditions we had to take a rain check not to worry we'll be going back to Parkhill in June.

The group met on a chilly Tuesday evening at the entrance to Park Hill. With head torches switched on, the team bee-gan the hill climb. The group were guided to the top by the glow of Josi and Catherine's torch, who were awaiting their arrival.
The team quickly set to work. Ingrid and Josi collected litter from the walled gardens and from the park. Meanwhile, Hannah, Nik, Catherine and Liz raked and swept the paths in the walled garden. The leaves were collected, so that they can bee composted.
The next activity was to investigate a nest. Could it bee a wasp nest or a bee's nest? Nik spotted honeycomb next to the nest. The bee detectives concluded that it must be a bee's nest!
Finally, the team took the tools back to the shed and bee-gan their decent of the hill.
Great job, team!

The team met on the square for a warm-up on a warm summer Tuesday. Nik had just completed the Croydon giraffe trail, so led the way for some giraffe spotting on route to Park Hill.
Upon arrival, the team discovered that there had been a little miscommunication and unfortunately the task owners were not there. However, this did not stop the team from putting their necks out to do good! Tools were located behind the compost bin and the team worked hard weeding the GG area of the walled garden. The weeds were moved to the compost bin and the tools were put away before the team departed.
All in all the team had fun and a good giraffe!

Last night two Good Gym runners set off at a merry pace to help the Friends of Park Hill prepare the Flower Fairy Garden ahead of the children's summer activities.
Firstly and foremost, the rain held off! Despite a rather ominous grey sky we were able to complete our run and task in the dry, hurray! We were met in the Walled Garden by Catherine and Josi, who were armed with all the tools and equipment for tonights task. A lot of preparation had already been done by them Friends to prepare the new board with the sign for the flower fairy garden and it was our task to help put it up. After some careful measurements and a bit of a wiggle to make sure it was straight we were able to apply the nails and glue to keep it in place. The sign had been missed by the park users so they will be glad to see it back up in place.
We swept up the paths and the pavillion leaving the area ready for the children's activities to begin.

Nine of us ran/walked to park hill to meet Josi from friends of park hill for another installment of peace poles.
The poles had been beautifully painted by students at the local school and members of the Croydon Soroptomist Group. After taking some time to ensure they were in the best positions in the garden, we began by digging a big hole. We then attached the poles to the ground stake and hammered them into the ground. It was important to use the spirit level to check they were straight! Once they were upright we were able to cement them into place where they make a vibrant and colourful addition to the walled garden.
Whilst we were doing all this we even had a bit of extra time to move some more woodchip onto the beds in the medicinal herb section of the garden!
Join us for our task next week to see what we are up to!

On Sunday we continued from last week's work turning the large overgrown garden into the Story Bee garden. Jack took up a pair of shears and cut back the hedge to neaten up the edges and make the path accessible for users again. Kate continued with removing the sticky weed from the bed to discover which flowers and plants emerged from underneath.
