Today, three GoodGymers made their way down to Kirkstall Valley Farm to help out with harvesting some courgettes for the season as well as clearing out weeds that had grown around the carrots.
A lot of the courgettes had already been harvested so we made very quick work of that and Jack and myself only managed to collect small 4-6 inch courgettes whilst Emily made her but with a large foot long courgette. After we wrapped that up very quickly, we made our way down the field where the carrots were being grown. They were not yet ready for harvesting, we had to clear out a lot of the plants and weeds that were growing around them (as well as the occasional misplaced potato).
As we were doing this, a very hippie style festival was taking place at the farm, with some interesting music. They were interested in extending their vibes to 'small amounts of sexy people' - the great start of a great cult and I wish them all the luck.
We finished the day by taking home some farm-grown vegetables, thank you Kirkstall Valley Farm.
Warm welcome to Emily and hope to see her at future sessions.

These were Adele's words as she let the all female running group into the farm to join Freddie, Adam, and Jubz. The task was to weed the raspberry patch....however the lads were struggling with plant recognition. Luckily Katie had an app on her phone that distinguished bindweed from borage. So the mission was accomplished quite quickly and after an easy 3km run down to Kirkstall Valley Farm we were now facing returning up the hill. We dropped Adam off at his door and took the scenic route via parks and ginnels. On the ginnel beside the rugby ground we met an artist called Griff who was painting murals on behalf of a local dementia support group. We barely noticed the hills!

We ran 3K to Kirkstall Valley Farm tonight but sadly they had an emergency so the mission couldn't go ahead so we ran another 3K back to Heart, Headingly & did the only thing we could do, get a drink to toast Katie doing 100 Good Deeds!!!
Katie is a dedicated member of the team, has been a great support to me, the new area activator & is one of GoodGym Leeds' most dedicated members. She's even doing her training to be a run leader so our weekly runs can get up & running again soon.
I wanted to say a personal thank you & well done to Katie...you're a super star!!

5 volunteers from GoodGym Leeds ran to Kirkstall Valley Farm & met the beautiful resident dog Dougie 🐕 It's amazing what a dog being around can do to people! Check out the fab picture of Mary reacting to Dougie ❤️
We cleared and sorted out equipment in a storage container, something the staff had been attempting to do for weeks. They were very grateful for our help!
