A marathon effort - the home straight!

Saturday 22nd August

Written by Newcastle runner

As many of you will know, Newcastle and Gateshead are gripped by (half) marathon fever in August as the Great North Run approaches next month! And I think it's fair to say that it's been a marathon effort delivering 3000 leaflets for Love Dunston to spread the word about their fair next weekend.

I was joined this afternoon by Max who hadn't been to a task for a while - I was certainly glad of the company to deliver another 300 leaflets. As it turned out, we delivered them all in only 45 minutes. Long terraced streets with short paths to their front doors are always a welcome sight when there are leaflets to be delivered!

We now hand over the baton to Richard and Scott to bring it over the line later this afternoon. They're both completing a marathon of their own today, with one of our regular allotment sessions, before they cross the Tyne to hopefully deliver the last of the leaflets. With a bit of luck they will have paced it just right, keeping enough energy back to finish the task!

Fair Visit to Dunston

Monday 17th August

Written by Newcastle runner

Three GoodGymers visited Dunston for the final Monday to deliver some more leaflets for Dunston Fair.

For the first time in quite some time we got a little bit wet on a Monday night, but fortunately the worst of the rain stayed away until we were finished. We delivered leaflets to most of the streets in the immediate vicinity of Dunston Park that hadn't received them before, venturing right up to the entrance to the park at one point. Three of us managed to deliver 500-550 more leaflets, which given the layout of the streets we were quite impressed with.

There are two further, and final, Dunston Fair leaflet delivering sessions this Saturday. Please check the session listings and come along if you can!

Leaflets, Prayers and Fairs

Monday 10th August

Written by Newcastle runner

GoodGym Newcastle branched out and headed south of the Tyne again to deliver more Dunston Fair leaflets tonight. It was a very pleasant evening for a stroll around the mostly terraced streets we targeted.

In the course of our leafleting we stumbled upon Gateshead Central Baptist Church, which we now know has cycle racks outside it. Then we unexpectedly came across an Eritrean church which we didn't know was there. An interesting route for a walk tonight and many hundreds of leaflets delivered!

We'll be delivering Dunston Fair leaflets for the final Monday next week. Please come and join us, but please read the listing carefully!

More leaflets for Dunston - Fair enough!

Wednesday 5th August

Written by Newcastle runner

This was the third of an as yet unknown number of sessions delivering leaflets to support Love Dunston and getting the word out about their summer fair later this month. Five (yes - five - on a Wednesday afternoon!) GoodGymers walked 5.5km and delivered another few hundred leaflets.

We discovered:

  1. Dunston is very hilly in places.
  2. Some houses on hills in Dunston have lots of steep steps up to their letterboxes.
  3. Lots of houses in Dunston have animal themed ornaments in their gardens!

I've included our Strava map for your admiration - it turned out to be quite an efficient coverage of streets quite close to where the fair is going to be held. Plus, as some of you know, I love a leaflet delivery Strava map!

We have at least one more session with these leaflets at our group run on Monday, and possibly more to come. Check out the website!

Fair Play in Dunston

Monday 3rd August

Written by Newcastle runner

Three GoodGymers spent Monday evening delivering leaflets for Dunston Fair around the Teams and Dunston area of Gateshead. Abbie, making her GoodGym debut, and Richard ran from Stepney Bank Stables along river, while Louise made her own way to the meeting point.

That area of Gateshead isn't the easiest in which to deliver leaflets, with some interesting street layouts. We've delivered leaflets in the same area numerous times before so are used to it.

Thank you very much to Abbie for coming along from Darlington for the first time and we hope the journey home was smooth!

Please join Louise on Wednesday to deliver some more leaflets!

Drop In Delivery Dropped

Thursday 9th April

Written by Newcastle runner

After a hiatus of a few months I was delighted to be back with GoodGym doing one of my favourite tasks - a leaflet delivery! And also very happy to be accompanied by Newcastle GG AA Richard and long serving Newcastle GoodGymer Michael.

Love Dunston is a new charity for us but task owner Chris was aware of us from his previous post so we were happy to help when he called on us. Chris is well aware of our ability to rapidly deliver leaflets - these ones were to get the word out about a drop in at The Drop In - a centre offering a wide variety of activities for children and young people. I think we surprised even ourselves when we finished the whole box of leaflets that Chris had left for us. The only downside is that Richard will now need to find another task for Monday’s group run!
