Sneinton Tenants Outreach Programme is a tenants and residents association based in Sneinton, Nottingham. They are known locally as ‘STOP TRA’. The group was set up in 2007 by a group of local residents with the aim of improving the Sneinton Elements area of Nottingham.
Back then, there was a lot of crime and anti-social behaviour in the area and the group set out to tackle these problems. We worked with the Local Police Beat Teams, Renewal Trust, Nottingham City Council’s Neighbourhood Management Team, Nottingham City Homes, the Local Schools and the Local Councillors and there has been a big improvement to the area since the group was founded.
We organise bi-monthly public meetings at the Pavillion on King Edward’s Park which are open to anyone to attend and bring any issues they have to be addressed. These meetings are also attended by Nottingham City Homes, the Local Councillors, Renewal Trust, Nottingham City Council’s Neighbourhood Management and other agencies.
The group has been actively involved in organised fun days and events on King Edward’s Park aimed at local people and families and we have run events on the Park as part of Sneinton Festival week for two consecutive years.
The group have worked with Nottingham City Council’s Parks Department to improve King Edwards park and the pavillion building on the park, with help from the local community and Community Payback Team. The pavillion is now open to the public as a community facility and we will be opening it up as a community cafe in Spring 2012.
On King Edwards Park there is a large green space, play area and a multi-games area with floodlit pitches for people to use for sports activities. If you are interested in using the pavillion or the sports area for any activities or projects, please get in touch with our group who will be happy to accomodate you.
We are also in the process of trying to set up a community garden in the grounds of the old NECTA building and we welcome anyone from the local community who is interested in getting involved to get in touch!
