On our way to our warm up area we found a passport and an ID card which we also dropped off at the local police station. Should we log this as a good deed too? Yesterday 7 members met at Solutions to head over to St Pauls United reform Church, where by Hannah and Catherine met us to assist the members of St Pauls United Reform Church, tidy up an area of the church to build their new herb garden.

We have been assisting St Pauls in clearing an over grown area of ivy and other bushes during the winter months and on our visit yesterday we were able to make further in roads in completing more weeding for the plating to begin. We pulled up roots shifted bramble and other bushes that had been cut down over the weekend to a near by skip while listening to the gospel rock band rehearse inside the church. We nattered away while working and before we knew it, our time there had come to an end after bidding our good byes, we ran off towards water tower hill were all bravely tried running up and over but its been a while since we have attempted a session on that hill and we were defeated but vowed to return one day in the near future.

Thanks to Nicola for taking us on a more scenic route were we discovered the hidden railway near the scouts hut.

We congratulated Kate on completing her first 10K, which has got her in the mood for some more running that she have already signed up to her first Half Marathon, fancy running along with her? Sign up here but do ensure to register with the race organisers.

On the 17th May we will be celebrating our 6th birthday, along with Hannah's 100th good deeds why not come along to our group run then onto box park for the celebrations

Remember to join us next week by signing up here

Ivy night

Tuesday 25th January 2022

Written by Conroy

Last night 6 members of Goodgym Croydon, braved the cold weather and ran 6.4km to do a spot of gardening at St Pauls United reform Church. They had some trees cut down toward the front of the Church, however the spot was being taken over by ivy and they wanted our help in clearing the Ivy to prepare the area for planting flowers. The weather was freezing so we set about out task as soon as Sue informed us of what she would like us to do. As we worked on weeding the ivy a few members of the community who were on their way home from work stopped to admire what we were doing as they were surprised to see us gardening in the night. Although there were only 6 of us we managed to clear a big area and partially rescued a tree that had some massive ivy vines growing on it. Soon it was time for us to bid farewell and Sue thank us for the work we had completed and inform us that she had some decorating she would like our help with in the future.

Next week we'll be indoors at the Croydon Refugee centre helping them sort through their donation sign up here

They opted for berries instead of apples, not wanting to be like Adam

Tuesday 6th August 2019

Today was the our first meeting following the GG Olympics, Ingrid and Nicola filled us in on the events at the Olympics and how much they had even as spectators. It was nice listening to them talk about the day and even nicer hearing them planning on getting a team together to represent GGCroydon at next year's event. Other GG areas better watchout because GGCroydon is coming to get their medals!

12 GoodGymers who ran 5km to today's task at St Paul's United Reform Church where Revd Martin Knight was awaiting our arrival.

When we arrived Rev. Knight showed us his office now that it was completed we did a group run and community mission there earlier this year to do the painting, the office looks really lovely and professionally painted.

Office inspection over he took us outside to show us the area he wanted us to focus on today. By the side of the church the bushes had grown out of control. We had gloves, secateurs, loppers, shears and an hand saw at our disposal as we all busily went about cutting back the bushes to create a clear walking path.

There was a branch that had fallen from the nearby tree onto the roof, Martin attempted to removed but with all his might and will he was unable to so Myself and Mo went to his rescue, however we realised that it wasn't because MArtin was weak but actually it was because the bushes and vines had grown all over the branch and made it impossible to pull away. BUt not wanting to be defeated with the help of the Rev. we were able to cut away the vines and pull the branch off the roof. As a reward myself, Mo and Martin refueled with the berries around us.

Everyone put in a great shift and it wasn't long before I had to call time, however looking at what it was when we started to how we left it we have made a huge difference, Rev Knight was impressed with what we achieved and thanked us for a job well done.

Well done Hannah you've now completed your 5th good deed, and also been cheered by 25 people!

Farewell to Michelle who will be heading back to the Middle East on Monday, it's always a pleasure having you along and really great how you always find the time to come running with us despite being on holiday.>

Paint-ently amazing!

Saturday 13th April 2019

Written by Ellie Hutchison

On Saturday morning, a group of runners made their way to St Paul's United Reform Church in South Croydon ready to continue their good work!

With the walls already prepped after Goodgym Croydon's great group run on Tuesday, we got to work with the lovely new colour of 'Egyptian Cotton'. Some grabbed paintbrushes to sort out the edges, while others got cracking with the rollers on the walls. After a few mishaps, where we all managed to paint ourselves into the same corner and cause a minor traffic jam, the first coat was done!

While we waited for that to dry, we touched up the paintwork in other areas of the Church and painted the doors, and then got started on the second coat. By the time we finished, the new office was looking smashing! A great morning's work!

Thats just the way we roll - A splash of paint, a piece of cake and a run of course

Tuesday 9th April 2019

Written by Stanka Petrova

14 runners dashed to St Paul's United Reformed Church in South Croydon to help with painting a room. This was not before we celebrated the 50th good deed of Nicola. Conroy surprised her with a huge artisan cookie with a GoodGym 50 good deeds t shirt ( a chocolate one of course) at the centre.

When we arrived at the church we were met by the lovely hosts who had prepared all the paint, brushes and rolls our crew needed. We buckled down to painting and some of the runners even did some squats while painting with the rollers.

thats how we roll, we roll like this

Mohamad was a really speedy with the roller and managed to cover the whole ceiling in no time. Lionel appeared to be a great gymnast manouvering on the ladder while painting.

Rolling in the CR0

Martin was amazed with what we had accomplished, within that short space of time we had painted the entire room. He informed us it would have taken him a few weeks to complete the painting. He was really grateful for our help.

Painting finished we roll out

On our way back we took some nice pictures of the sunset in Croydon and quickly ran back to our starting point where the huge cookie was waiting us. Nicola cut generous pieces for all of us and we enjoyed the chocolate and cherry cream cookie ( with a bit of guilt of course!).

The fitness session at the end was replaced by a calorie burning friendly chat celebrating commitment and good deeds!

Next week we will be heading back to St Augustine's church sign up here
