It’s always a joy to visit the Nest Project. They support families facing financial pressure by donating clothing, equipment and toiletries for under fives in Bath and North East Somerset.
For GoodGym Bath it’s a wonderful opportunity to help out and get to see some seriously cute clothes. I came across a tiny bear coat with separate paw bootees. I wish I’d taken a snap as it was adorable. I’m sure the child who gets it will look even more sweet.
The team at the Nest told us that demand for their service is higher than ever. Parents are asking for help with things like wet wipes and toiletries as well as clothes for their little ones. The project gets referrals from the various Foodbanks across the area and is also able to direct families to aid if necessary.
They do get some interesting requests. Recently they were approached by one mum who had twins unexpectedly. The Nest supplied a cot so she had somewhere for both her babies to sleep.
Our main job - once we got to the site after a quick jog from Victoria Park - was to move boxes of donations from downstairs to upstairs and back again. Every six months or so there’s a bit of a turnaround at the project, putting winter clothes away and getting out the summer collection and vice versa.
There was a bit of sorting and some major juggling of boxes to fit them in the various spaces. It was a bit like a game of Tetris.
There was even a major Chuckle Brothers moment as Richard and new GoodGymer Martin freed up some space on top of the cupboards and made safe some precariously stacked chairs.
Everyone survived and we were able to run back knowing we’d done a good Goodgym job.
A special welcome to Sarah, who was also on her first mission, and well done to Tanya, Kate and Helen for their hard work too.

500 Christmas gifts were hand delivered by generous supporters of the Nest charity.
Each gift was a selection of pressies for a boy or girl of a certain age.
Our mission was to sort the present bags into the right categories ready to be sent out to families in need over Christmas.
With 3 of us at work, the task was completed quickly and we had plenty of time to stop for tea and chat to the various wonderful donators who came to the door.

5 Goodgymers made their way to the Nest Project to help sort their storage of baby clothes.
Steep stairs created the divide between the storage of winter clothes versus summer clothes. We lifted, carried and stepped box after box up and down the stairs of the warehouse. We then played jenga trying to get the boxes to fit back into the cupboards.
This bi-annual activity is as good for the legs as it is for the lungs!
Well done everybody :)

This afternoon we headed over to The Nest Project to help swap over their seasonal clothing stocks.
We were joined by a host of new GoodGym first-timers from the university - welcome guys, it was lovely to have you along. You are excellent and efficient sorters, not to mention very neat folders!
The Nest is a charity providing clothing for young children, to families with financial difficulties, and with spring beginning to spring (note: it was still flipping cold out today!) it’s time to put the winter range into storage and break out the summer clothes instead...
The long term storage is in cupboards downstairs, and the current range is set out in the room upstairs. So first up there was a bit of shifting to do. We split into two teams - one getting the summer clothing out of the storage, and another bringing the boxed winter range downstairs so that it can be put away in the newly vacated cupboard.
Then the summer range needed a little sorting and quality control. A lot of it is already boxed by both age and gender, but we had to go through those boxes just to double check. And also there were bags of new donations needing to be sorted into said boxes, before to finish up we had to take those boxes upstairs.
With something like 10 volunteers and the two staff, we managed to get everything done in the time slot, whilst as per usual being fuelled by some excellent home-made cake, and tea and coffee.

GoodGym headed over to the Nest Project, to do some seasonal sorting.
The Nest are a charity hub providing children's clothing for those who need them. First up we helped with some rearranging of the summer and winter stock, relocating some of the boxes so that winter clothing was put upstairs in the storage area and those summer containing summer clothing was brought downstairs where it'll be more readily available over the coming months.
The downstairs storage area is on top of some cupboards, so Mark (handy up ladders), Rachel (health and safety) and Alice (multi-skilled) set about reaching winter boxes down from the cupboard tops; Jane and Meyrick (no head for heights) ferried the summer boxes from upstairs, and winter boxes back up; and with Jer (doesn't need a ladder to get high) fulfilling a sweeper role and moving boxes to and from the high cupboards without a ladder.
We did all this in no time, so for a secondary task we sorted the contents of individual boxes, which were boxed by age range (3-6 months, 6-12 months etc) into separate winter and summer stock.

4 GoodGym runners ventured out from lockdown on a cool November evening to meet at The Nest Project - an important local charity supporting young children and their families in BANES.
Last month, the Nest started a pledge for donations of Christmas boxes for distributing to families in need via children's centres in Bath. The team were so pleased to receive over 400 boxes thoughtfully decorated and filled with gifts and essentials for different groups of children and mums-to-be. It was amazing see the huge piles of festive boxes filling up the office - a wonderful example of the kindness of strangers!
Our GoodGym team worked hard to help organise all of the boxes with our host, Vix, ready for distributing. It certainly left us feeing a bit festive as we all headed our separate ways 50 minutes later with our flashing running gear! Officially Santa's helpers? I think so!
