Six Leeds Good Gym friends ran to our fantastic neighbourhood community/arts centre, Left Bank, this week. We took to the dark streets for a short run making good use of our headtorches across the park. Once at Left Bank we were issued with two sacks of crocus and daffodil bulbs and a bunch of repurposed wooden spoons. Torches on again and into the garden we went. A good hour of planting these bulbs was rewarded with a free drink and a chin wag. We particularly enjoyed Paul's tale of his student toga party and the inevitable consequences of Scouse mischief!

This week was full of nostalgia as we headed back to Bedford Fields. We also took the opportunity to replicate the original parkrun route (1 lap in reverse)
We had a few tasks to do this evening - moving woodchip, removing litter and pulling nettles.
We had just the right amount of work to do within the hour , as we managed to clear the path of woodchip, clean up the litter including a freddo wrapper and rich tea biscuits, and pull nettles almost without well incident (Khara!!)
Afterwards we had time to run around the ridge before it got too dark, and attempted a sunset selfie just as it was disappearing. It almost ended, but thankfully didn't, in a comical fall down a hill full of nettles.
We then returned to HPBC for a well deserved bevvy. Well done team!

THIS week we returned to Meanwood Valley Urban Farm to plant some grapevines.
We welcomed Caroline and Megan on their first goodgym task, and had a walking group this week led by Katie.
The walkers set off, taking a more direct route to the farm. After a warm-up everyone else then set off on a longer route - which was a total of 3km and included lots of hills.
The task involved using spades to loosen the compost, shovels to load the barrows, and strength to transport the compost. We managed to fill 2 of the holes positioned adjacent to polytunnels. We had to fill the holes with lots of compost to make sure the grape vines could grow in the right direction (through the polytunnel).
We then joined a ceremonious planting of the grape, a variety known as the phoenix. We learned that it is a very reliable grape and it will live for up to 200 years!
Well done everyone see you next week :)

9 goodgymers made their way to Left Bank to help repaint some storage cabinets.
We welcomed back Katie on her first group run post-covid.
We ran the long way to Left Bank. Going up towards Headingley and back down Cardigan Lane. We made a slight error in navigation - which I'm blaming on the GPS - but Helen quickly helped us find our way back on track.
The Task
We had 4 cabinets to paint, and so we split into pairs and worked together to get the task done. We must be experts at painting, because we had painted all of the surfaces within record time. Therefore we had time at the end for a bit of friendly competition of table tennis. Winner stays on. Elspeth wins the award for most competitive!
After refreshments courtesy of Left Bank, we headed back to HPBC via Woodhouse Moor. Another task successfully completed and another 2km run done!
Well done everyone, see you next week.
