On a wet Monday night in Wandsworth we bought the festive cheer, beginning with a warm up and a survey about Christmas films - do they make you ho ho ho or are they just about as fun as an over boiled brussel sprout? The grinches just lost out in the votes, and the verdict is in - Christmas movies are here to stay!

It was great to see some new faces along to our run - a huge welcome to Emma and Giulio who came along to their very first session. Give them a big festive cheer!

Our job for the evenings was at Larkhall park, a regular location for GoodGym visits. Every time we come we work hard on various spots throughout the park alongside the regular volunteers who help keep it a safe and welcoming green space for local people.

Last night we divided into two groups. The first team was to tackle the big bed at the entrance of the park, the second went off to help shift a massive pile of soil and to clear an area of leaves.

Before long it was action stations and everybody was hard at work. Jordan and Felix took on the massive soil shifting challenge, while Jason debuted his fabulous new invention - the spade light. Quick, somebody get it patented. It only took 40 minutes for us to make a big difference and the Friends of Larkhall Park group appreciated how much got done. Well done team!

The fun didn't stop there though - there was just enough time to squeeze in a circuits based fitness station in the playground. It featured squats, ladder runs, curtsy lunges and plenty of laughs.

Next week it's our final group run of 2026. I'm just finalising the task, so keep an eye out for the sign up page. We'll follow this with a social at a local pub - time to get those vocal chords warmed up!

There are plenty of opportunities to spread the Christmas joy this week, including:

• Helping collect donations and other jobs at Battersea's oldest church tonight. We really need a couple more volunteers for this - and you will be rewarded by celebrity speakers and mulled wine!

• Supporting a carol concert for the elderly on Thursday

• Putting up Christmas decorations at a church in Battersea on Saturday morning

Last night at GoodGym Wandsworth we had a very special double celebration - we had not one but two huge milestones to celebrate! Ladies and gentlemen of GoodGym, please put your (gloved) hands together for the wonderful Joanna and for Annabel who both did their 100th good deed last night - absolutely amazing doing good and getting active. From shifting compost, to sorting food donations, creating a GG garden, to painting community centres, they've contributed so much to their community. Great work Annabel and Jo!

We met as usual at the BAC to do our warm up and to discuss what we'd like to do, in honour of the milestones, before we're 100. The group is obviously very intrepid, as people opted for visiting all seven continents, skydiving and bungee jumping!

Our job for the evening involved less travel (although it was still a good 5km run up a long hill!) but significantly more mess. We had been asked by Balham Nursery to come and create a 'mud club' for the under fives. This was definitely our sort of task, as it involved annihilating anything in our way, and exposing as much mud as we possibly could!

Meanwhile there were some slightly cleaner tasks that did involve some heavy lifting, which Jason, Ali and Felix took care of - getting a good work out up several flights of stairs in the process!

Before long the job was done, and the headteacher was really pleased with what we had got done. here's what she had to say this morning after the kids had arrived:

I think there are going to be quite a few muddy knees among the under fives of Wandsworth today!

On a fresh, crisp Autumn morning a group of GGers met at the beautiful Paradise cooperative garden for a huge task shoveling no less then three tonnes of horse manure!

After a quick chat about what connects us to nature we got on to the 'mane' task. An enormous pile of manure, two compost bins, eight GGers and one hour to complete the job. Could we do it? That was equestrian! (sorry)

We quickly organised ourselves into groups - Annabel, Letizia and Felix were super shovelers, Kamil and Igor became brilliant barrowers, Jordan raked to perfection and Jason was king of the mountain!

As Letizia put it, 'there was a good group and we got organised quickly finding a good rhythm to complete the task ahead of time.'

Amazing to see what can be achieved with many hands and some serious horse power!

A special shout out to Letizia for completing her first task and to Igor for his first session in Wandsworth - great to meet you both!

Last night we proved that it's twice as nice in Wandsworth as we divided up the team to tackle not one but two tasks!

We had been schedule to head to the Scout hall in Battersea to help tidy up the outside area, but we were also asked last minute to come and help sort out donations at a local community hub. What to do - say, yes, of course!

So while Steph and Jordan stepped in to lead the scouting expedition, a second group made our way down to Doddington hub. We arrived to find a room stacked with donations. These had been given to the organisation following a major fire in Battersea, but because many of the residents affected have been moved to hotels, not all the donations were able to be used.

The plan is that the hub will be opened today so that people in the community that need a little extra help can find what they need. But before that can happen, there was a lot of sorting to do! While Annabel and Ali got stuck into the enormous pile of games, deciding what was educational (quiz games), what was fun (Jenga) and what was destined for the bin (the creepy dolls head..see photo). Johnny and Felix tested their sartorial skills by going through a mountain of clothes, and even played a game of 'name the object' (we still haven't figured out what it was that Felix found!) By the end of the session the room was looking much more organised and ready for visitors today. Elizabeth, who runs the hub, called GoodGym 'a miracle team'!

While we had the benefit of an indoor task on a rainy day, the intrepid Scout group were with Peter at the hall, and had a big weeding and clearing job to take on. The drizzle didn't hold them back, and captured by photographer Jordan, the overgrown space was dealt with beautifully. Peter had this to say this morning -

'Thanks again for Goodgym's support. We managed to clear the garage area , and round by back door. Steph did a grand job of sweeping the car park. We also discovered a hole in the ground!'

Great job everybody - and you even managed to divert a potential sinkhole disaster!

A few dates for your diary - next Monday we will be off to Larkhall Park to help out there followed by a Halloween themed social -either drop me an email or join the whatsapp group to find out the finer details of the post-run social but the idea is that we were will be going to a local pub with some Halloweed themed fun. All welcome!

We also have a mission coming up that needs plenty of help - we're back at Paradise for a Sunday morning session shoveling manure. It promises to be a great work out in the fresh air at a beautiful community space!
