Croydon Report written by Dom Tooze (he/him)
While some Croydon runners take part in the Lloyd Park parkrun regularly, there was a good turnout this week; a couple of regulars, someone new to GoodGym and parkrun, a couple of PBs and a double 50th celebration for one runner!
Lloyd Parkrun regulars Jordi and Matthew both ran amazingly. Rachel made her 50th parkrun (ahead of her 50th good deed a couple of hours later!) and got a new PB. Andy joined us for a first parkrun (after his first group run with us on Tuesday), and was absolutely brilliant. We were also joined by Stephanie, who also joined us for a group run for the first time on Tuesday, who did a sterling job! Also along today after a starter session last week, was Samantha. We look forward to seeing you guys at our Tuesday group runs, where we can put some work into getting even better times next time!
Juliet and I weren't racing today; Juliet was at the start/finish point as she's writing the parkrun report for the week, and due to a bit of recent overexertion I decided to try marshalling for the first time. I would like to think I channelled the Race Team's penchant for super enthusiastic cheering; given that I was at the top of Lloyd Park's notorious hill, I hope it worked!
After the race, a few of us popped for some coffee and brunch before heading off. With 4 of us heading to a fantastic mission a couple of hours later, and a Croydon GoodGym Olympics flag session, it was a brilliant, exhausting, and productive day!

Barnet Report written by Pennie Varvarides
We returned to the place it all began this week, running the 2km to Long Lane Pasture to shovel some compost. We were actually shifting the piles of compost that we created last summer, when we piled up all that cut grass and hay. I did not realise how long it takes for compost to become compost!
We started with a quick intro at the cinema where we all met Luke – give him a cheer for his very first run with us!
With many GG Barnet runners still in Riga, it was great to see we still had such a wonderful turnout for the task at hand. We started off with a gentle jog down to Cherry Tree Wood to warm up on the grass before Heather lead the team towards Long Lane Pasture. Amanda missed Hazel and her portable speaker, telling me running without the GG Barnet playlist just wasn't the same! You can add tracks to the GG Barnet Tunes playlist here.
We arrived at Long Lane Pasture in about 20 minutes – our longest run in weeks! The Pasture team greeted us and showed us our task. Nicola did a wonderful job raking the pathways of catepillars (not real catepillars), which fall from the trees and kill the grass. Luke and Lilian both took a few scratches from the brambles and I was very impressed (and also a little worried) with Amanda's commitment to getting a good team photo at the end. We do have the best photos in Barnet.
We finished up with a running game around a big ring path, before heading back to base.
This week's Barnet Biscuit was homemade cloud cookies and ginger & cinnamon biscuits courtesy of Joanna
I don't know if 'cloud cookie' is the actual name, but Louis and I both agreed that's what it was like eating.
Join us next week for our VERY LAST EVER run to Hammerson Nightingale care home on the Bishops Ave. We will be packing up the library. The home is being knocked down, so this will be our goodbye GoodGym good deed. It's 1km each way.
These are the missions I mentioned today:

This week we were joined by a very special guest, new Norwhich trainer Steven. We were also joined by GG Barnet newbies Jennie, Jack, Prima and Madeleine – give 'em all a cheer!
After a quick intro we headed down to Cherry Tree Woods to warm up on the grass. Steven took the gang through some new moves and got them all limber and ready to go.
Damian helped Steven lead us to Martin Primary, with Freya our trusty backmarker. We then headed 1.2km down the road (the park is 500m away from the cinema) to meet Tristan and Roger at the school and get to work. They had lots of trees in the orchard they wanted us to help. The team quickly got to work in pairs pulling out the weeds around the trunk and digging a neat little ring around the trees ready for bark.
The school has a wonderful pond, that's currently a little low on water thanks to the sunshine. This did mean we had to navigate our way around many frogs, who were hanging out in our digging zones. Great job to Eleanor and Madeleine who helped me relocated some frogs to the safety of the pond.
The school also has a really cool forest bit, which they use as a forest school. Kids can come and hang out there and learn lots of things in six week blocks. It was incredible. They had a huge tent (parachute) and a fire pit and a clay oven.
The gang very quickly finished with the trees and tidied up, ready for a fitness session from our special guest. Graham joined me on the sidelines, while Steven put the rest of the gang through their paces.
We then ran back to base for stretching and biscuits, courtesty of Hazel.
Next week we'll be running to Long Lane Pasture to shift soil. There's loads to do! Sign up here. Joanna has offered to make something delicious.
And there's a mission on Saturday in Edmonton putting up a fence. Sign up here if you can help.
See you next week!
