Bee-autiful work!

Woking Report written by Katie J

Today Goodgym Woking helped continue the painting project at Knaphill Lower School. Katie was the first to join Vikki (PTA) and soon after Melanie arrived. Melanie ran from home to the school, a very impressive effort.

The Hive building is used by children and teachers, often for training, as well as external groups. The painting has already brightened it up a lot and Vikki said that the children have been very excited to see the painting that has already been done.

There is more painting to be done and there is a further session planned for tomorrow, as well as the 19th of September.

Melanie Karunaratne completed 25 good deeds with GoodGym.

Melanie has already done 25 good deeds with GoodGym. Instead of doing anything else, they've used their run to go and help people that need their help; digging, lifting, scraping, clearing, planting and weeding. Stuff that makes this a better place to be.

GG Woking to the rescue…. Un-bee-livable!

Woking Report written by Woking runner

Yesterday, Anne and Harriet started to prepare the work to paint a beautiful mural “The Hive” on the wall of one of the school buildings. Vikki, the volunteer who organises the work for the school, was not sure whether teachers and/or parents would be able to come and help with the painting. Well, you just had to ask GoodGym: the response was fantastic!

This morning, from 9:00, seven GoodGymers from Woking: Agathe, Harriet, Kirsty Luan, Melanie, Stephanie and Anne, made their way to one of Knaphill schools. They were responding enthusiastically to the cry for help thrown at them yesterday.

Armed with bright coloured paints, brushes of different sizes and clear instructions from Vikki, we all went to task. We enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and the opportunity to catchup with each other’s news after the summer while some of us could show their incredible artistic talent.

There is still more work to do, but today’s results are very promising! I believe there was a mention of adding some butterflies, ladybirds and dragonflies… which are the names of the different classes.

Vikki’s leadership is exceptional and GG Woking has already promised to come back to finish the mural, paint the other walls of the Hive. We will also give a hand to Mark, Vikki’s husband, who is preparing the foundations for a summer house, on the field. It will be used by the PTA and the Football clubs. Muscles will be required to put the summer house up and more painting will be involved then too!

Thank you GG Girls for today’s un-bee-lievably rewarding mission!

Well done everyone, such a joyful task. Can’t wait to return and continue cheering up the playground. The pupils are going to love their new outdoor spaces! ❤️

Such a satisfying task, and a great day with other goodgymers. ...Thanks Anne, I hadn't realised I'd hit a very small milestone - nothing in comparison to some of you.

Plogging Along

Woking Report written by Rebecca McAlees

5 Woking GoodGymers, Agathe, Anne, Julie, Melanie and Rebecca, made the most of the warm and light evenings while they are still around, to do a littler picking run.

It was a great opportunity to catch up as a couple of us have not completed a mission for a while. We also explored a new route some of us had not been to before while picking up litter next to a stream.

We cleared up the usual crisp packets, vapes and drinks cans but also a sock!

Plogging is meant to be one of the least favourite GoodGym tasks, but here at Woking we love it. It makes our community a better place, prevents more litter being dropped, shows GoodGym doing tangible good in public and a good chance to have a chat. It was nice to be thanked by people walking past.

If you could not join us this time, we might see you next Wednesday? In the meantime, have a great running week.

Run Like You Are Carrying The Olympic Flame 🏃‍♀️

Woking Report written by Wayne

*Woking Junior Park Run Olympic Day *

This morning it was Olympic day at junior park run. And you can not have an Olympic day without an Olympian. This morning we we had Former 2012 British Fencing Olympian Corinna Lawrence 🤺

As well as Corinna we had out goodgym hero's Wayne, Anne, Adam, James, Melanie, and Olalekan.

With the Olympic theme 😄 Olympic coloured bands were handed out to the young runners who had reached their running milestones. It was great hearing from Corinna about her Olympic journey and how she got into fencing.

Wayne, Anne, and Melanie were marshals out on the 2k course cheering and encouraging the runners around. Olalekan had the important task of being the barcode scanner, while Adam and James were responsible for putting the equipment away at the end.

There was a great turn out this morning with 163 runners taking part with the fastest time being an impressive 07: 31. There were also 58 PB's fantastic running by everyone 😄

Sunny Junior Park Run ☀️

Woking Report written by Karen

Woking Junior Park Run

You never quite know what the British weather will bring on a Sunday morning at parkrun! Today, woolly hats were swapped for hot and humid conditions. A brilliant 136 juniors completed the course, supported by 28 wonderful volunteers, including 2 GoodGymers. Karen also brought her friend Steve along again for his 3rd parkrun. A fun morning all round, and congratulations to all the dads spending Father’s Day supporting their kids!

Woking Junior parkrun the 2k Dash - High Five!!!

Woking Report written by Luan (She/Her)

The turnout at Woking Junior Parkrun was astounding as per usual!! Wayne, Mel, Ola and Luan were the GoodGym marshals for the morning.

Writing the report I tried to get the stats for the event but, today everyone was pretty chilled at the end so there was no prize giving as there have been other times.

The kids are so cool at Junior Parkrun and a couple of them high fived me as they ran past, OMG they are cute! Usually I personally try to be as encouraging as possible and cheer them on as they pass…

They all did so well to run their 2k around the park!

Awesome :-)
