Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Bristol runner
Great to meet Richard today who caught me up on my run into Southmead, so we ran the last part to Mr K’s home together, where our host was waiting with a real treat of a task for us!
We made our way up the narrow stairs and round the corner into his living room where he showed us the three armchairs that needed to be carried outside for collection by the council this afternoon.
It was a tight squeeze, but after some twisting, turning and lifting above the handrail and then dropping under a wall above the stairs, we managed to get the first chair out.
The second chair needed to have the covers removed and the bottom attachments to the legs taken off, but luckily one of the two screwdrivers that Mr K had to hand did the trick, which meant that taking this chair out was much more straightforward.
Given our success with chair number two, we opted to remove the small plastic feet from the bottom of the third chair, which left two metal fixings sticking out, which we were concerned would cause some damage to the walls. So while I faffed about with some pliers on one of the fixings, Richard was straight in with a claw hammer and yanked out the other. With that, the removal of the last chair was fairly easy.
Mr K asked us which gym we belonged to and when we explained that his home was our gym today, he also offered us his old dumbbells to take home with us, which we politely declined, but told him that we were very appreciative of the tough but fun workout that he had provided for us!
Great teamwork on this task today and as Richard and I left a very grateful Mr K, we were left pondering how he was going to get a new two seater sofa up those narrow stairs!
