Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Kate Frain
9 of our ace GoodGymers jingled all the way down to Stretford Public Hall last night to help them deck the halls ready for their Christmas light switch on this Friday!
We met as usual at St Matthew's Community Hall in Stretford at 6.30pm where we were filled with festive cheer to welcome new GoodGymer Lauren to the team and also tourist Pete (from our lovely neighbours GoodGym Stockport). Great to have you on board both!
We also started our joint donation campaign for Streford Foodbank - we'll be collecting over the next week so give us a shout if you've got stuff to give. Thank you
Once we'd snaffled an extra tree decorating task at St Matthews (two tasks are always better than one!) and donned our festive head gear, we warmed up and chatted about our news which included an update from Fiona about the seasonal Festive Community mission she was part of over the weekend. You can read her report here - thanks for stepping in and getting ready to tumble that tombola!
As this was our regular walkable task almost as soon as we had set off we we arrived in the shake of a reindeer's tail at the beautiful Stretford Public Hall where we were met by Jo who explained about the history of the Hall. It was built by John Rylands to say thank you to the local community and in more recent years has been taken over by Friends of Stretford Public Hall who raise funds for its upkeep and renovation. Jo then guided us to our task which included decorating the frankly massive Christmas tree, drinking tea and chatting to all the other people from community groups who were using the Hall.
Once we'd completed that we cantered (yes literally) back up to St Matthews where we cooled off and decorated tree number two!
Be proud of yoursELVES!
We're booked up until Christmas now but are very much on the look out for tasks in the new year...so give us a shout! Until next time,
Be good to yoursElf and others too.
