Due to some rotator cuff issues Tom wasn't able to attend tonight's session so it was down to Sensational Steve (his words not mine) to Shoulder the responsibility of leading our latest outing to Heeley People's Park.

A small band of walkers lead by Sashaying Sioned departed slightly earlier than the rest of us to get to the park, a great option for anyone carrying an injury but still able to walk, and this will be on offer at lots of our group runs in the future, where distances allow!

Fellow walkers Ambling Ash and Canteering Kat got there before the runners and helped get us organised by sorting tasks with Fantastic Frank from Heeley People's Park. One we had all arrived safely we had a quick briefing and got straight to work.

We had four teams, Litter Picking, Forking, Cutting Back the Overgrowth and Waste clearing. Everyone working hard by street or headlight and from a distance it looked like an army of glow worms was at work on the small area of the People's Park that we've worked on before. Steve got plenty of tips on his motivational speaking, including a "request" to go to the local dessert shop and supply waffles for everyone, sadly time wouldn't allow for this and the hard graft continued.

With time running out everyone lent a hand to clear the main pedestrian footpath that had been covered in cuttings, leaves, litter and debris, but bang on time this was spotless thanks in no small part to the efforts of Sweeping Tom Harman

He's gone a little off piste

Once we had regrouped, waived goodbye to anyone leaving us there and our walkers, Frank thanked everyone for their help and wished us good luck with the "torture" that was to follow.

Heading to the bottom of Alexandra Road we split into two groups for some varying distance hill sprints. With everyone having to sprint up the hill until they reached the moving target and then recover back down the hill.

He's getting further away!

After a good few reps each we headed back to the Showroom, but as an added bonus, we spotted off en route and had a go at the Moby Squat Challenge, as if those legs hadn't already been worked enough! Once back at the Showroom, we stretched off and caught up on what's happening over the next week with #GGSheff.

Well done everyone who took part in tonight's activities.

"Making Heeley a better place to be. We want Heeley to be a successful, vibrant and inclusive community; a good place to live, to work, to do business and to visit."

Heeley Development Trust (HDT) is a small, charitable development trust, founded by local volunteers, business people & residents in 1996. We have delivered youth, community, environmental and economic development projects in and around our neighbourhood for the last 20 years. We are working hard, developing a diverse range of income, social enterprises and assets, all with the aim of making Heeley a great place to live, with a real sense of place, pride and community. Our projects include; Heeley People's Park, Sum Studios (saving a Grade 2 listed Victorian School and redeveloping as managed work space – this is bringing jobs and investment into our community), The Heeley Voice - a local magazine and Recycle Bikes – a social enterprise supporting disengaged young people to gain training, confidence, work experience and jobs. If you are interested in any of our projects, would like to get involved or are willing to volunteer any of your time please do not hesitate to contact us or give us your feedback.
