We were planting hops, which is often used as a flavouring in beer. It is also regarded as a healing plant for the nervous system. After we had dug a suitable space, we all lent a hand to help carry the hops and carefully position them into the ground. Hopefully we will see the hops climbing up the trellis in no time.

We were set the task of edging some of the flower beds and turning over the soil. Greening wingrove and Friends of Nuns Moor Park would like to plant several types of currants in the flower beds. Their idea is that everyone who would like to, can pick currants from the plants, and make a delicious crumble.

It is amazing what you can see when you look around. Hiding in the corner of the bike garden, is a beautiful pond area, with bird feeders and insect homes. The corner is dedicated in memory of councillor and anti-racism campaigner Nigel Todd.

It is so lovely to see the changes in Nuns Moor Park and to see people investing so much time into it. We will definitely have more sessions with Greening Wingrove and Friends of Nuns Moor Park, who are all a lovely group of people who are trying to improve the space.

The Bike Garden is a vibrant community space developed on the site of a previous bowling green in Nuns Moor Park, which now serves the community as a place to join in on regular food growing activities, place to hire for private and public events, that may be regular or one-offs, and much more
