Last night 14 members of GoodGym Croydon, ran to Croydon 7th and 12th Scouts to help sort out their Den.

We ran approx. 2.3km to the Scouts Hut which finished off with a nice uphill incline. When we arrived we were met by Roger, who was very happy with the number of volunteers that had turned out to help with the task. There was a room full of camping equipment that needed to be cleared out and put into the main hall for Roger and the others to sort through and see what was needed.

Following Roger’s talk about what to do some members looked at the room to be cleared and could see why we got Roped in, to say the least there was lots at stake. Paul, Alex and Karim all pegged into the room while the others formed a human chain collecting the items and placing them in the large room for sorting.

45 minutes later and the Scouts were content with we had achieved. We cleared the room of all its contents, Roger had a very pleased look on his face, had we not turned up the job would have been left to him and two others to clear the sort. Now on Wednesday night they can just focus on sorting and cleaning the equipment’s including moving the garden tools to the garden shed. They seemed to amass a lot of pricks which, roger informed me had been donated to them from various members of the community when they are either moving home or doing a clear out of their unwanted garden tools.

Good Gym not poles apart from the Scouts

Task completed we bid farewell to Roger and watched the walkers set off, going back we had a nice run down the hill that we had to climb to get to the Scouts Hut, there was a lot of laughter and chatter amongst the group as everyone felt pleased with our accomplishments. It was quite satisfying seeing the room all cleared considering at first glance it seemed like an enormous task. It is truly amazing what GoodGym can and continues to do for the community.

GoodGym members are always up for a challenge and with that in mind as we approached Water Tower Hill (check our Strava) I ushered them to the right turn, reminding them to keep their form and use their arms as the attempted our first proper hill climb of the year. Watch that segment as we will be back will there be a GoodGym member sitting in the top 10 spot by the end of the year?

After an amazing effort by all we rested for a little while then set off to solutions, where we continued our plank holds (45 secs) and did some push ups. Fitness session completed with some gentle stretches and our usual pat on the back.

This task supported
7th - 12th Croydon Scout Group
Local Scout group for young boys and girls, teaching independence, teamwork skills and adventure.

Our group is in serious danger of closing through lack of members, we have managed to start rebuilding our younger group. we need help to tidy our hut and garden to make the place more appealing and user friendly, hopefully we can turn it around and give kids a place of their own.
