Report written by Lisa Hamilton
A festive 8 of us met to at the usual start location of GrandCentral Lifeleisure, setting off to run at 6.30pm. Our distance this week was around 5km all round, when we are leafleting it can be slightly less or more, but we covered a comfortable distance at a good pace for all levels. After the initial catch up and introduction and a quick look at the map we all set off at a slow gentle pace to our location. After a few start and stops and map moving we found a area to leaflet drop, it wasn’t “the” area on the map we needed to be, but we saw it as our extra duty! After completing some Christmas houses we tootled off to the correct streets that were allocated……..
Last week Pam Robinson from St Mathews had shown us the mini booklets they make up for Christmas, the booklet has all the festive information and lots of brilliant services that happen around the festive period to keep the community together, there are things from family crafts to carols and plenty more. Pam is a wonderful and welcoming person and St Matthews is a lovely church and always has events on for the community, and is doing a wonderful job of keeping people happy together which is important all year round but especially important around the festive period.
I would say this was our best week so far leafletting! We managed to post around 800 booklets between us, and it was calm and dry and lots of Christmas lights to spot, including a fully decorated house and a moving Santa projected onto the entire side of a house.
After we had completed our duties we ran back slightly faster as we had our Christmas social to attend! A few of us got a bit festive, my attempt was a tiny slither of red tinsel! Others made more of a effort with a Christmas t-shirt.
It was a really nice social catch up to chat about where were at as a group and what challenges people want to achieve run wise. It was decided that this year as a group we will be entering the Manchester Half marathon, so look out for more details and feel free to join in with us.
Last thing, a huge welcome to Tom for being bullied by Sam at the last minute to attend! You made a fab member and we are looking forward to having you back in the future! Also well done to the fabulous David for completing his Leeds/Liverpool trail marathon on sat, and for coming 4th!!!!! Over all….wow…..and then still coming along to goodgym on a cold December to help do wonderful stuff. Also to Anne for volunteering at Parkrun this week and completing her first mission! Hurrrahhh.
We have 1 more week left of the year before we take a few weeks out, and then January will be bursting with good stuff.
Until then folks, once again thank you for being awesome and happy running, Lisa x
(hope your all still doing the 12 runs of Christmas?? I am!)
