Report written by Tom Mutton
With all this lovely weather we have been having it has meant that green growth has been shooting up everywhere! It's fantastic to see but from time to time the hedges around Heeley People's Park need a quick trim to keep things looking prim and proper and providing good open paths for pedestrians passing by. Peter pepper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
14 of us rocked up to help Parky Rob with the task this week. After a brief brief we got straight to it, grabbing loppers and cutting back the overgrowth to fill the provided tonne bags with the cuttings which were then placed in the park for composting. We also had a good sweep of the pavement and the gutter after to clean up after ourselves and leave the paths wider and nice and clear for all users.
After a good lot of cutting, tree and berry identification we popped tools back into the barrows, emptied the final tonne bags and said our farewells to Rob until the next time.
Before people went their separate ways we got some fitness in on the steps with a couple of short 30s bursts of:
Once complete we headed off into the hot summers eve back to the Showroom for some stretching and cooling down.
Until next week, happy running :)
Heeley Development Trust (HDT) is a small, charitable development trust, founded by local volunteers, business people & residents in 1996. We have delivered youth, community, environmental and economic development projects in and around our neighbourhood for the last 20 years. We are working hard, developing a diverse range of income, social enterprises and assets, all with the aim of making Heeley a great place to live, with a real sense of place, pride and community. Our projects include; Heeley People's Park, Sum Studios (saving a Grade 2 listed Victorian School and redeveloping as managed work space – this is bringing jobs and investment into our community), The Heeley Voice - a local magazine and Recycle Bikes – a social enterprise supporting disengaged young people to gain training, confidence, work experience and jobs. If you are interested in any of our projects, would like to get involved or are willing to volunteer any of your time please do not hesitate to contact us or give us your feedback.
