Rare Monday task in Stockport, stepping in to help Plastic Shed move a few doors down to their new premises. After getting the key earlier in the day, Caitlin needed a few hands to help move all the equipment, machines, and ALL THE LIDS from their storage location to their new home.
Hannah was up to the task moving furniture from a nearby site to the store, while Hazel and Ben moved a whole room of lids and plastic down the stairs to be taken to the new store. All this while machines were wheeled, carried, and dragged to their new site of action.
After nearly 2 hours, we emptied one room and the ground floor items had all be shifted across. Great to see other locals chipping in too, and excited to see the great art work and workshops to come out of Plastic Shed.

Environmental agency putting up extra fences while they rebuild the river bank. Small mishap turning my ankle while carrying the speaker but otherwise ok.

Tyla and Ben pulled up their sleeves to clear up some the litter blighting some parts of the city š®
After a short jog towards Hulme, we stumbled on a disused warehouse with some pieces of litter around the perimeter near the road. As we got closer and crossed the broken fence, we came across a whole area full of
There was a lot. We cleared what we could using the bags on hand and in just 1 hour, left the area much tidier, with the hope that removing the litter will discourage others dropping takeaway food or fly tipping in future. Maybe a pfand or deposit scheme would reduce the number of discarded drinks bottles and cans... š¤
The final task was to carry the bags to the nearest council public bin. No mean feat, with several trips needed with the heavy bags providing a good workout šŖ
Bags have been reported to Keep Manchester Tidy so they should be collected very soon.

Wet session at Parakeet Pathway today!
Spent most of the session splitting pallets with a pallet separator (basically a big crobar) before removing the old rusty nails so they were ready to cover the planters on the site.
Lots of heavy work and managed to cover some of the front planter too.
Active group with sites in Platt Fields Park too. Had homemade spaghetti with sauce using homegrown herbs and tomatoes from their site. Scope for more sessions although they do have a lot of their own local volunteers.

Gaynor and Ben went along to help Ardwick Climate Action for their regular Saturday volunteering slot.
This time, we were in St Saviour's graveyard, soon to be the Lydia Becker space as part of the existing green routes overseen by Ardwick Climate Action š³
Initially we picked up any litter in the area, culminating in 4 bags plus some larger items š®
Most of the task involved clearing a corner of the graveyard šŖ¦ of young trees š³ that had taken root between the grave stones. Armed with loppers, secateurs, and saws, plus a bouncy Juno, we made good progress and filled 3 big rubble sacks of branches and trunks to be reused at a garden or green refuse centre (no waste here!)
Once cleared, the tools were collected, litter reported to keep Manchester tidy, and we said our goodbyes š

Welcome to Uzondu for his first GoodGym Manchester outing this evening! š
Today we were tasked with brushing and scraping down the metal fence and gate at Ladybarn Community Hub. Charly, Uzondu, and Ben walked or ran to help them out.
With metal brushes, cloth, and wearing eye protection (safety first), we made steady work with Dr Coull, one of the trustees, to remove the top layer and flaking paint from the fence. Charly made the first step in getting paint onto the fence, a fetching black colour, closely followed by the others šØš
With people each side, and others filling in as we went, the fence was quickly covered in a fresh black shine, managing to completely cover the fence and gate, leaving out the musical note šµ on the gate.
Once a hastily written Wet Paint sign had been attached, we cleared up a bit, washed hands, and made our way home.
Really active local community group with lots of sessions and initiatives for local people, and a well kept garden and pond. We hope to be back again, perhaps to paint more of the fence or with other tasks.
