There was a lot of earth and rocks to be moved by wheelbarrow from one end of the site to the other in preparation for the opening of St Edward's Community Garden on Saturday. Then there was weeding the paving and tarmac at the front of the site. Community Gsrdener in Chief, Neal, couldn't believe how much had been achieved today.

A lovely session today as the garden at St Edward’s in Mottingham prepares for its grand opening on Saturday 19 July. There were a big group of volunteers led by Neal, including Rich and Paul from GoodGym. Rich laid some more paving whilst Paul weeded the rest of the paving. Paul also tried to sort out a problematic compost maker that was a haven for flies.

I came in cycling through the blazing heat and navigating the humid weather. Phew! I still made it for a 1:30pm task. It was definitely a hot day, but nothing could dampen our spirits! Despite the weather trying to sweat us out, we managed to stick to our gardening tasks.
It’s great to see the tomatoes I planted are looking healthy and vibrant after just a week.
Even in the smallest ways, our efforts have made a difference. Until next time.
