Lovely weather this morning with a full house of volunteers, what more could we ask for!

We always need volunteers for our weekly event, if you can spare an hour on Sunday come down and see what its all about.
Have a lovely Sunday

Mick and Sheila joined a regular workparty at Haymill Valley, run by the local wildlife trust. After the safety briefing we loaded up with tools and set off for the spot where we had finished last month. Our task was to continue clearing the brambles and other plants invading the path. Armed with hand-scythes and loppers we attacked the invaders, sometimes also using a hoe to continue Jen's mission to clear the grass from the paths. Luckily we were in the shade of the trees most of the time, but managed to stay hydrated with water and a tea-break with the traditional fruit cake

Two volunteers joined The Langley Park Ranger team to take part in a spot of conservation. Today we were pulling up the weed ragwort to protect the horses that use the park and then we moved on to pull up the bracken which was threatening native species of oak sapling. Another interesting morning with the friendly, knowledgeable rangers helping to conserve the park for the future.

... helped by one of the watering cans being leaky!! The team coined a phrase ''don't be a drip, get a grip!'' and managed to ferry watering cans in a wheelbarrow so many times that all 5 of the water butts on the allotment were completely full, and still manage to water a lot of the flowers and vegetables as well! The team work and banter was excellent - so there was even time to smell the buddleia - which we decided was our favourite as well the butterlies' favourite! In parallel we managed to completely clear brambles, nettles and grasses to enable access for a lady who has just had hip surgery to get to her raspberry canes and rosemary bush.

On Saturday I had a long run to get in but I still wanted to get my weekly parkrun fix! So I arrived at Upton Court park at around 06:45 to fit in 13 km before doing parkrun.
As I drove in I noticed that the car park was FULL of litter! And this did not look like a fox having a party! It was household rubbish of watermelon, egg cases, food waste and containers.
I knew if I started picking the rubbish up first I wouldn’t get my run in so I decided to run first then give the car park a go!
13km done and dusted so I got out my litter picker and filled a large black bag full of rubbish before doing 1 more km to the start of parkrun!
