Perfect 10

Friday 17th January

Written by Sarah

10 amazing Goodgymers helped at Age UK Leicester by sorting, sizing, tagging and hanging bags of donated clothes to be ready for the shop floor. Everyone got stuck in with a few pro’s among the group who are very familiar with the task, especially Lindsay, Jimmy and Stu who visited last week!

Our help was much appreciated by the Staff at Age UK especially Abby who kept us stocked up with clothes to sort, we filled 4 rails today! They were also very grateful for the donations Sarah, Dawn and Lynn brought along after their New Year sorting.

Great to see Samir has a new bike, Jimmy’s first question was his concern about its safety (reminding me of the times Jimmy used to lock my bike with his beeping alarm). I did wish that Stu had bought a new jacket, it really suited him!

Shout out to Lindsay and Lynn who want to take up the task force training to keep Leicester going from strength to strength with more the merrier Task force members.

Fantastic efforts everyone and great to see so many familiar faces keep up the great work and have a lovely weekend.

3 Goodgymers met at 10.30 for our volunteering role at the Age Uk warehouse.

We were greeted by Abby, who was really grateful for the help, as they've been inundated with donations. Lindsay and Jimmy had been before, so we're able to start immediately with tagging, pricing, and hanging the garments on the rail with the correct size cube.

Stu quickly picked up what to do and worked in tandem with Lindsay. Before we knew it, we'd filled the rail with 99p clothes, ready for the shop floor.

These prices are so low, I'm knit kidding around!

Todays team of six:Leese,Mel,Lindsay,Jimmy, Nick. Jeanette all met up at Age UK's Leicester warehouse/ store for a session at sorting, pricing and labelling clothes heading for the "99p sale" section. All items were checked for size and hung on the clothes hanger with the correct size cube. Lisa got cracking on organizing the empty clothes hangers into the size groups - the ocd'rs amongst appreciated the orderliness of the newly sorted hangers. Having done this task on a previous session Lindsay was straight into completing the task for each item: amend price, attach label, place item on clothes hanger, whereas a few of us split the job into seperate sections. Fuelled on biscuits and coffee in 90 minutes, we priced sized and sorted over 5 bags of donated clothes. The time flew too quickly, we could have carried on for a lot longer!

Five Goodgymers met at Age UK to help sort clothes, shoes and books to go out on the racks and shelves. Great to have our new Goodgymer Sita join us today , lovely to have her onboard.

The famous 5 were met and taken to the warehouse where Jimmy and Sita were tasked with sorting books, cds and dvds. Mel, Nick and Lindsey sorted bags of clothes into sizes and hung on the clothes racks ready to sell .

Thirsty work so Abby from AGE UK made a brew and said GG were welcome anytime.

A great task, welcoming, warm and rewarding!

Young at heart

Friday 20th September 2024

Not only a new organisation for us to work with but a new Age UK Superstore in Leicester, found by task force member Jimmy on his cycle home from another task.

6 Goodgymers were kindly welcomed and given a quick tour and demo how to label, tag and hang, Jimmy took his school boy notes which we all referred back to.

Nick found his specialty at charity shops, book sorting with Samir too, together they sorted a pile of books ready to stock the shelves.

In no time at all the clothes rail was looking fuller with clothes going from sacks, to be labelled then hung on the rail all buttoned up.

The staff made us coffees, with biscuits and sweets, the Goodgymmers were happy. Good Luck to Mel and Nick at the Belvoir Challenge this weekend, a 24hr lapped race and Mel sounds like she's taking on every volunteering opportunity available, Lindsay asked when is she going to sleep?!

Afterwards we all had a browse of the new charity shop, Jimmy was tempted by a a toy digger I'd like to have seen him carry that home on his bike. Great to see you all, weldone team we'll be back.
