Sheila helped out at Braywick Heath Nurseries, and was given a very prickly task. The polytunnel has not been used for a while and has been invaded by brambles. These need to be cleared before the space can be offered to other community groups or local businesses. I set to work with loppers and protective gloves, loading the cuttings into a hippo bag.A couple of hours and one very full bag later, a big dent had been made in the task, but still plenty more to do!

It was a day for tidying up at Braywick Plant Nursery. Laura joined two other volunteers, tidying up some plants and then giving the potting area a makeover as it had got out of hand. Sheila fancied an outside job, so tackled brambles which were over-running two areas. Great job, everyone

Angela, Laura and Sheila were found an indoor task at Braywick Heath Nurseries today due to the weather. 3 trays of miniature plug plants of violas and pansies needed to be pricked out into six-packs, ready to be grown up ready for the winter season. 1,225 plants later, our job was done

Louis and Sheila were faced with a very brambley path at Braywick Plant Nurseries. It got rather out of control over the winter, but now they would like to clear the space so it can be used by other community groups. We set to work with loppers, trying to avoid the prickles,and loading the debris into big bags. Sheila might have won the prize for extracting the longest bramble, but Louis definitely was a hero in tackling the biggest and most evil clump. A very satisfying task, and looks much better, but still more to do another day

Sheila and Juli were joined at Braywick Heath Plant Nursery by Mel and Sarah for their first ever GoodGym session. Our task for today was to clear the tinder-dry weeds from a large area, as there was concern that they were a fire hazard. We set to work with loppers, shears, a hoe and a rake, clearing the area, and pulling the weeds out where we could. The local moggy came and inspected our work, but stayed pretty aloof refusing all attempts to engage with her. Thanks to everyone's hard work, much of the plant material has been removed and it also looks a whole lot better. We hope that we will see Mel and Sarah at a future session

4 GoodGymers gathered at Braywick Heath Nurseries, who are still trying to sort their grounds out after nearly having to close at the end of last year. The gravel area running alongside the greenhouse has been invaded by lots of weeds, so taskowner Kate was keen that these should be pulled out before going to seed and blowing onto the rest of the nursery. We welcomed Lindsay to her very first GoodGym task, it was great to have her along too. The dry weather and membrane underneath meant that most weeds pulled out easily, but some were a bit tougher. We rewarded ourselves with some blackberries before cutting the brambles down. By the end of the session we had filled two big dumpy bags with the weeds and the area looked a whole lot better.
