4 GoodGymers gathered at Braywick Heath Nurseries, who are still trying to sort their grounds out after nearly having to close at the end of last year. The gravel area running alongside the greenhouse has been invaded by lots of weeds, so taskowner Kate was keen that these should be pulled out before going to seed and blowing onto the rest of the nursery. We welcomed Lindsay to her very first GoodGym task, it was great to have her along too. The dry weather and membrane underneath meant that most weeds pulled out easily, but some were a bit tougher. We rewarded ourselves with some blackberries before cutting the brambles down. By the end of the session we had filled two big dumpy bags with the weeds and the area looked a whole lot better. Great work, team

Laura and Sheila helped out at Braywick Plant Nurseries. While Laura potted up some plants from modules, Sheila joined Charlie in cutting back the hedgerow in the car park, and getting rid of the weeds so that it can be planted up with something more interesting. This should make it a much more inviting space

Sheila and Laura joined another volunteer at Braywick Plant Nurseries. After doing a quick scout to remove any ailing plants from the sales area, we settled down to the main job of the morning - trimming the straggly petunias to stop them all getting tangled up with each other and to encourage more flowers. Several buckets of trimmings later, the plants were neat and tidy and we had earned ourselves a nice cup of tea!

Sessions at Braywick Heath Nurseries are back after a Winter break. The warmer weather means that some of the plants will soon be able to go to the outside sales area. Meanwhile many weeds had taken up residence in the shingles. Anna and Sheila took on the task of removing the pesky plants to make the area look more presentable. Five bags of weeds later, including a couple of run-ins with some nettles, the area had been cleared and looked much tidier. We were pleased with what we had been able to achieve in a couple of hours

Karen, Laura and Sheila gathered at the Braywick Plant Nursery on what is the last scheduled Goodgym community mission here. The finances are not working out and this fantastic facility is planned to close at the end of the year unless a rescue plan can be devised. We worked alongside 3 young men from Talkback, who gain valuable experience and skills in Horticulture from their weekly visits. We were sorting and trimming the perennial plants being over-wintered, and by the end of the session we had gathered a dustbin full of trimmings including several acorns which had fallen into the pots whilst they had been outside. Goodgym has been supporting Braywick Plant Nurseries since April 2023, and 55 different GoodGymers have carried out 96 tasks. Let's hope that a rescue plan can be found.

Karen and Sheila were delighted to be joined at Braywick Heath Nurseries by Bejay who was doing a spot of GoodGym touristing all the way from Ruislip. Our task today was all about moving plants around - putting the best ones on display for sale, particularly those for the authmn/winter season. We all got loads of steps in, moving the plants from the glasshouses to the outside sales area to tempt the customers. It was great to meet Bejay - do come and join us again!
