Clifton Down Growing Space

A growing space for local people
The project has utilized a disused car park into a Growing Space for local people to grow their own food. In 2025 we built 40 raised bed planter boxes and we have 25 members in addition to a volunteer team. We have additional funding and so in 2026 we plan to build 100 more boxes and are looking for more members and help to build and fill the planters. The site is on Alma Vale road behind Clifton Down Shopping Centre and is publicly accessible. Please see link to #cliftondowngrowingspace www.cliftondowngrowingspace

Scooper Stars

Saturday 16th May

Written by Bristol runner

We met at the Clifton Down Growing Space today to make another dent in the massive pile of soil that was originally delivered, which is now but a tiny mound.

Scoop the soil into the wonderful assortment of buckets (I think we all have a favourite, and least favourite by now), carry to the beds and tip, repeat.

A couple of hours of this and a variety of topics of conversation covered and we called time. The rain held off (mostly) and a great morning to be out getting some exercise and doing some good.

Until next time…

Shovel ‘n’ Shift

Saturday 9th May

Another call from the organisers of the Clifton Down Growing Space who needed some GoodGym support, to fill the lined planters with soil, ready to rent these out to members of the local community.

Dave, Jordan, Elaine, Mercha and Pearl (the dog), busied themselves shovelling the dwindling mountain of soil into buckets and shifting these over to fill the planters.

We are getting close to using up all of the soil and another session next week will hopefully see the remainder shifted!
