Leafleting for Foodcycle!

Sunday 3rd November

Written by Newcastle runner

After an extremely tiring working week, today was a welcomed day off. I was very much looking forward to getting back into the Goodgym flow.

Michael and I met on a misty Sunday afternoon at Teams life centre. Armed with a stack of leaflets each and trying not to get lost in the number of cul-de-sac estates, we went upon our quest.

Today, we were delivering leaflets for Foodcycle. They are a brilliant charity who help to provide a warm meal for anybody who would like one. I liked it how on the leaflet it says, "no need to book, just turn up".

I chose the time of 14:00 as I thought it would still be light and then the sun would be setting as I drove home. This was not the case today and the clouds obscured the view. I am sure a couple of miles down the road there would have been a spectacular sky display.

It was a leisurely stroll today, taking in the beautiful autumnal vibes.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday everyone!

Everyone is welcome to the next Goodgym mission tomorrow:

Round of Appaws

Saturday 1st June

Written by Aimee (she/her)

On a sunny Saturday morning four GoodGymers finished the leafleting for FoodCycle Felling. Anji, Paul and me came straight from Fulwell Quarry parkrun and we're slightly late meeting Max.

The weather was lovely and sunny - the complete opposite of the wet Wednesday evening when me and Liz completed the first half! Perhaps due to this good weather we saw plenty of puppies and dogs, including a cute German Shepherd puppy and an adorable 11 week old labrador we all had to go over and meet!

We delivered at least 250 leaflets in an hour. At one point we didn't think we would be able to deliver them all but we did and also managed to time it perfecy to loop back round to Felling Community Centre right as we posted our last leaflets. A satisfing morning task!

Many thanks to Anji for taking pictures and thinking of the pun!

Wet wet leaflet

Wednesday 22nd May

Written by Aimee (she/her)

Two GoodGymers helped leaflet for the new FoodCycle venue in Felling. FoodCycle combats food poverty, loneliness and food waste through free community meals made form food that Supermarkets would have thrown away.

Me and Liz were both equally late due to traffic caused by the road works on the Tyne bridge.

The weather was very wet and rainy with big puddles forming in the streets. We stuck together doing one side of the street and then lopping around, completing cu-de-sacs and coming back on the other side of the road, keeping track of where we had been. After about an hour and around 200 leaflets we arrived back at Felling Community Centre and decided to call it for the night as we were completely soaked!

We still have some leaflets let so look out for a future community mission to help us deliver the rest of them in hopefully better weather!

No-ice ‘n easy does it

Wednesday 6th December 2023

Written by Newcastle runner

It was a dark and cold night in a new area for Lucy and me, but we both came prepared with layers and woolly hats! Again, GoodGym's most Northerly outpost demonstrates that sub-zero temperatures mean nothing to us! Fortunately, despite the recent rain and low temperatures today, the paths were clear of ice.

We had a LOT of leaflets tonight (unusually for me I hadn't counted them!), spreading the word about the Felling branch of FoodCycle - one of our favourite charities, who take donated food and create tasty hot meals for anyone who can benefit from one, for whatever reason. This time there were leaflets asking for volunteers too.

We got off to a fly(er)ing start, posting about two thirds of the leaflets in half an hour. We then got a bit stuck with some of those houses where it's difficult to work out which is the front and which is the back! Together with some dark doorways, progress was slow. We soon got back on track, finishing with a flourish on a lovely terrace with no driveways - my fave kind of street for leafleting!

Just as we delivered the last two leaflets I realised I hadn't taken a photo - oops! Instead you can admire a pretty carved stone panel that Lucy spotted on the side of a building - presumably a former baker's shop.

There are two Urban Green tasks to get stuck into this weekend - check out the website

A very paw-sitive evening!

Thursday 26th May 2022

Myself, Elly and Michael made a brilliant team tonight. We were helping the great organisation FoodCycle with delivering leaflets in Felling to promote the great work they do within the Community (close to their project which runs on a Friday)

The weather was very mixed, it was so windy that we had to be careful to not drop any leaflets but was warm/sunny.

We had a lovely walk and the three of us stuck together as we managed to deliver 250 leaflets in just one hour exactly (fantastic!)

I got the fright of my life when I was surprised by a dog that had escaped from a garden (just as I was posting a leaflet) Thankfully it was all fine though as both Michael and the owner came to the rescue, and we had a good laugh about it afterwards.
