Today we welcomed Fran to her 1st Victoria Park session. We were all tasked with weeding and clearing the beds and path between the Portsea and McKenzie Gates. Pushing back the grasses, leaves and weeds encroaching the pathway - clearing lots of sticky weed amongst the plants. We were sheltered from the wind and the rain held off fortunately. After filling quite a few buckets, we were able to sit in the sun with refreshments after finishing the session. The roses are starting to bloom and smell lovely. Plus the two new baby long-eared bunnies have arrived and are really cute if you're passing.

A big welcome to Julie on her first Goodgym task!
After instructions, we paired up with the other volunteers, ready for a visit outside Victoria Park. The task was to dig out the weeds from the periphery fence running along Anglesey Road. We started from each end and all met in the middle, filling plenty of buckets and definitely sprucing up the pavement area. The bushes poking through the fencing will also be cut back at a later date to complete the tidy up.
We made our way back to the Greenhouse dusty and ready for a cuppa in the sunshine.

There was a great turnout of volunteers today in spite of the arctic rain and wind. Waiting for the rain to stop, we had a warm cuppa in the hub at the start of the session, then ventured out to the beds by the hub to start clearing out the weeds and giving the grasses a hair cut. Lorna (now known as Lorna scissorhands) was a dab hand at crafting some great haircuts including one that looked remarkably like Tina Turner's style in her Nutbush City Limits era. We made great progress and managed to do, what would be 2 day's work for one person, in just 90 minutes. We warmed up weeding, raking, sweeping and shifting and enjoyed another hot drink supporting the local Cafe in the Park before going on home.
