🎶 Lop-Chop-and-Remove-a-Lot-of-Bamboo🎶

Tuesday 12th July 2022

Written by Saul Muldoon

We had a lot of bamboo to remove last night, cutting down a huge bush at Netherton Infant School to make more space for a wild flower meadow.

Working with Nigel from Growing works we lopped and chopped the tough stems, bagging them up before attempting to prise out the tough bamboo roots.

Thanks to Kati Law, Ben Godfrey, Tom Elcock and Andy Lloyd for their efforts on a very warm evening. Good to see Andy Lloyd returning for his first GoodGym job since our launch session nearly 4 years ago!

Let Sleeping Logs Lie

Tuesday 24th May 2022

Written by Saul Muldoon

Not exactly logs, but railway sleepers, and we didn't let them lie either. Working with our friends at Growing works we were on week 2 of a big task to remove a raised bed. Ben Godfrey, David Bilton and myself were shifting sleepers and shoveling soil to remove some old raised beds and replace them with an insect friendly wild flower area.

Well done team, another top effort...not sure about logs but I think I need a lie down now!

Unmaking the bed

Tuesday 17th May 2022

Written by Saul Muldoon

South Crosland Junior School had a old raised bed that needed dismantling, so along with our friends from Growing works GoodGym were called in to tackle the job.

An hour of hard labour later we had made a dent in the job, but there is still plenty to do on our return visit next Tuesday.

Thanks and well done to Kati Law, Louse Galvin, Zena Whalley and David Bilton for their top effort this evening.

Path-ology

Tuesday 5th April 2022

Written by Saul Muldoon

We didn't actually make a raised bed tonight, we were building at path instead at Growing works' allotment site. Cutting turf, laying membrane, ecogrid, and finally covering with stones. It's tough work, but our efforts added a few more feet of path making the Growing works allotment a little more accessible for wheelchair users and others alike.

Well done and thanks to Kati Law, David Bilton and Louise Galvin for your expert path building efforts.

A Bed Time Story

Tuesday 29th March 2022

Written by Louise Galvin

Once upon a time there were 4 GoodGym members fine and true called on a quest to build a raised bed for the Growing Works community allotment. They travelled from far and wide. By bicycle, car and foot. And once they arrived they set to work digging and shifting, sawing, hammering and drilling until as darkness fell the job was complete!! Great work! A satisfying triangular construction to be filled with soil and flowers to bring joy and colour to the good people of Growing Works. And they all ran happily home after. The End.

Wish and Chips

Tuesday 31st August 2021

Written by Saul Muldoon

When Rachel from Growing works wished for a path on their community allotment to be weeded, cleared and covered in woodchips the least GoodGym could do was oblige.

An hour's worth of hard labour from Kati Law, Ben Godfrey, Louise Galvin, David Bilton, Alison Cottam and myself saw the path looking more chipper and Rachel looking very pleased with the fruits of our efforts.

Well done team!
