Merton Friends of the Earth

We’re a community group made up of volunteers in Merton working towards a greener, fairer planet, from local to global.

As a Friends of the Earth local group, we strive to protect the natural world and the wellbeing of everyone in it. We collaborate with other groups in the London Borough of Merton and beyond for a clean, green neighbourhood, and we also support Friends of the Earth’s national and international campaigns.

From organising tree planting events to lobbying our local councillors and MPs, we campaign and develop projects on a range of issues to help tackle the climate and ecological crisis

9 GoodGymers have supported Merton Friends of the Earth with 9 tasks.

Setting the Stage and Snapping the Saves

Saturday 27th June

Written by Jade

We prepared the venue by arranging tables and chairs for the repair stations, followed by putting up the event signage to guide arriving guests. Then for the remainder of of the event, we focused on marshalling visitors smoothly to the registration desk and taking photos to document the day. Our efforts kept the entrance clear of bottlenecks and captured great promotional material to celebrate the café's success.

The fix factor!

Saturday 30th May

Written by Caroline Helder

Don't throw it away, bring it back to life! That's the idea behind the Wimbledon Repair Cafe and GoodGym was there to help out at the first ever event. On a hot and sunny morning, we offered drinks to the many people queuing, helped register and match them to the volunteer repairers, and generally ensured that things ran smoothly while numerous faulty items were coaxed back into action. All in all it was a tre-mend-ous success and we hope to be back next month to support this excellent initiative.

It was a joy to see the trees that were planted last year, doing so well and the trees that were planted 5 years ago now very established.

Weed like to mulch post run

Saturday 4th October 2025

Written by Jade

This was a post-parkrun mission teaming up to support Merton Friends of the Earth with vital tree care in Morden Park. The windy weather guaranteed a physical workout as we dove into the saplings, carefully clearing the competing weeds, vines, and grass. The job was finished by applying a good layer of mulch to nourish and protect the young trees. Mission complete, followed by cozy coffee and chat with other volunteers before heading off having had a very active start to the weekend - well done team!
