Another four pronged attack on litter and dumped rubbish in SE London, by our regular quartet.

Adi was in Sydenham's Mayow Park, early enough to catch the sunrise, despite not feeling great; fortunately the litterers hadn't been out in force and there wasn't a crazy amount to collect.

Cecilia fitted a litter pick in on Herbert Road in Woolwich after work, collecting a bagful with her litter picker.

Ivar did a late afternoon pick at the just outside of Sutcliffe Park, opposite McDonald’s. Among the usual wrappers for McThis and McThat, today’s catch also include a remote control and a tennis racket. He filled another bag to the brim in no time!

Paul also found some broken electrical goods - a turntable and a kettle in Deptford's Brookmill Park, amidst the cans, bottles and bits of plastic washed down by the Ravensbourne.

Four GG’rs in three south London, boroughs made a difference at the weekend with their litter picking. Ivar was clearing a large grassed area on the A20 in his bit of Greenwich, including a lot from the McDonalds opposite.

Cecilia was also in Greenwich, but a little further east in Woolwich, in addition to picking litter, she was able to promote GoodGym to a trio of passers by, one wanting to know how to get involved!

Adi was up and about earlier than the rest of us and witnessed misty scenes whilst picking up litter in the south west corner of Lewisham in Sydenham’s Mayow Park, there was less than recent weeks probably because of the unsettled weather.

Meanwhile, Paul was in Southwark’s Peckham Rye and following parkrun walked back round the course picking up dropped rubbish, there were slim litter pickings though, he only managed to half fill his trusty bag for life.

Cecilia was busy in Woolwich focusing on recyclables as she walked home after her shift at work, getting a bag full as she went.

Meanwhile, Paul litter picked along the Ravensbourne in Deptford's Brookmill Park. There was a lot more rubbish than usual as a result of some strimming of brambles making litter more visible.

James, James and I met Millie and Adi at the park, and set about brushing the flaky old paint off the last stretch of railings ready for the Friends to carry on painting this coming weekend.

With gloves and safety specs on, it's quite a satisfying task up close, watching the rusk and flakes fly off lit by torches! We did a whole long stretch of railings between the five of us, while catching up with Millie and her escapades all over the borough from bat talks to dog show announcing and planning permission for redesign and rebuild of the local clubhouse (which is shared by the bowls club, football club and park).

We started the task in daylight and finished in the dark, but were delighted to be reminded that soon it'll be time for planting sprint bulbs in both Alexandra Rec and Cator park (and doing this in the evening means less lost to squirrels :) So we'll be back soon!
