Great weekend of good deeds, good company and excellent fun

Monday 5th January

Christine Viney earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Christine completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Christine was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

On a chilly but gorgeous winter's morning, something strange was stirring in the new York Community Woodland. A group of runners, marshals, timekeepers and walkers had made their way to help support a dress rehearsal for a new community based running event that will soon be coming regularly to this spot
The event had a very familiar feel to it and everyone seemed to know exactly what was required of them but surely that was just a coincidence
Goodgymers took up spots at various marshalling points as the community based running event got underway. In classic Goodgym fashion Tristan forgot to start his watch, Mitch arrived late and Fergie got passed around between various walkers, marshals and runners
All in all, the event was a huge success. So much so that I can definitely see this kind of thing catching on at other places!
Now we all know that community based running events aren't a race, but the top spots on this occasion were taken by both of the Woollards who can, for a few weeks at least, be crowned the power couple of the York community woodland community running event!
What a fab morning to be part of the York running community ❤️

After the long bank holiday weekend a very impressive 25 GG Yorkies turned up to help out at Hempland Haven, a community events space in Heworth Allotments. There were no celebrations this week although many of the group had been away camping for the now annual GG Yorkie's August Weekend Away (if you've not been before, you should definitely come to the next one) and a few others had spent the day doing some serious training for their upcoming attempt at the Marathan du Medoc, which features a fair bit of wine across the 26.2 route in the vineyards of Bordeaux. Tonight we also welcomed newcomer Jenny who was doing her first ever GoodGym task. Giver her a big cheer 📣
The task was just over 3km away each way, so Vicky led a cycling group out whilst Tristan led the running group with Ed bringing up the rear. The cycling group arrived first and were joined by Nicola and James who were meeting us at the task. Taskowner Gayle got them set up with tools to get the weeds out of the cracks between the patio stones, whilst the running group were still struggling to find the right allotment space, before realising they'd stopped their run a touch too early and needed to head a little bit further into the allotments to join the others!
The team made great progress clearing as many weeds out from the cracks as possible before spreading sand onto the ground and sweeping it into the gaps. Gayle and her small assistant were on hand to provide a few bottles of water to the more thirsty GGers (mostly those that had been wine training earlier in the day), and before too long the sand was being filled into every crack the team could find. There was a mad dash to sweep it all away in order to finish with enough time for the group photo and a fab nautical themed fitness session from Tristan, which showed that a lot of us could do with swotting up on our ports and starboards, as well as our left and right!
It was then back to the Priory Street centre for a bit of a fruit and veg giveaway thanks to various gluts and some delicious cake from Jenna!

Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Pool Bridge?! Yes we did! We met at the car park. Some of us arrived by bike. We decided to split into a walking group and a slow run group. The weather had cooled to make it easier to run in, but there was a hazy atmosphere - apparently due to the fires on the North York Moors. We had a slow trot up the Bridleway, and round for 5km. Vicky and Issy had decided to meet us at the picnic. Using a high tech piece of kit (pointing at a map) we chose our spot and found each other. Although the site was busy, everyone spreads out. Jenna showed new folk around, then it was a wriggle under towels for well earned dip in the Q lake. Sooo good for aching muscles and a hard working week. Well done Claire for getting back in the water after a few years! We were treated to the Griffs' matching robes, as we tucked into our picnic. Ducks joined us, well rehearsed in how to pick up tit bits. Cara, Tristan and Issy enjoyed more than one dip in the other ponds. And just as we packed up to leave, the reluctant sun came out! Apart from that, it all went swimmingly!

No Ox but quite a few cows to be seen, although we had all met at the the Spotted Ox before the run. Although we had planned 3 different routes there were only 3 takers for the middle distance of 7.5k so we split into 2 groups. Vicky set off with her crew and all enjoyed a good run with only a slight deviation to cater for Niel who had dropped down from the mid distance to ensure no-one felt short changed. The others set off on their run in the opposite direction at a nice pace that allowed for plenty of chatting and allowing us to quiz Tristan about how he proposed and which of the multiple laps at endure recently completed by James were the worst. We all met back at the pub for nice grub, a drink or two and typical GG chat. Roll on the next one and thankyou all for coming out on a school day ... :-). Another successful evening out...
