A great turnout for our first school task... No school dinners on the menu today but we did offer a shoulder to crayon at Ryvers Primary School... Thank you to Chrissy one of our regular runners who arranged this task for us
A Squat is a Squat..No??
As we had a longer distance to run today, we headed to the park for a quick warm up and stretches... and Chris learnt that there was more than one variation to the squat! A new piece of knowledge was then shared by Chris regarding pedestrian crossings! We learn so many useful facts from our runners!
I ran so fast I got in-DIG-estion!
We made it to school in super speedy time ( clearly the childhood chills of being late were in the back of our minds) and the lovely Chrissy gave us a low down on the tasks in hand... we divided into three teams and got straight to work
Even in darkening conditions the teams did really well! The painters had quality control checks in place via Sara No fence slat was left untouched... The potters planted cress... I mean viola and pansies which all looked like cress to me into 4 pots... and the ploughers in super quick time cultivated the two large flower beds... and lone man Darren got the task of ensuring the smaller plant holders got the love and attention they needed
Aloe from the other side..
We faired goodbye to Chrissy and team who were doubling up as task owners and runners today as they stayed behind to lock up the school gates and we headed back to base...
Setting Trends the Teachers Way!
Have to give a special mention to our teachers runners Gail, Meera and Keira for always thinking outside the box! When we talk about safety and protective personal equipment they went a step further and donned the white overall
What better way to make sure the red t-shirts stay red! Well done ladies
Next weeks task is a shorter run of 2km each way to The Riverside Centre at Jubilee River..
We have the whats app group set up now so please do feel free to join it ( email me with your number and I will add you)
Christmas PARTY - FRIDAY 30th NOVEMBER 19:30 The Corner House, Windsor

Goodgym Slough are now 8 weeks into running and doing good deeds... Each week new runners join us and this week it was Meera who took the plunge to run and do good with us...A warm welcome to you
Before we headed out to help ** The Parvaaz Project** we were joined briefly by Fiona Perry, Healthwatch Officer from The Healthwatch Slough. She gave us a brief overview of what they do as an independent national champion for Slough people who use health, social care services.
More about Healthwatch can be found on their website www.healthwatchslough.co.uk
Thank you for visiting us and the free pens
We did a couple of warm up games before heading out on our run... which dare I say it... confused the runners.. Mental note on a more simpler warm up next time... Thanks to Darren, Chrissy and Keira for back marking today
Raison D'etre
On arrival at the centre, Alex, our task owner, who is visibly so passionate about the centre and the work they do, showed us some photos of the centre users and how it has impacted their lives.
Hearing the stories was heart warming and is great to hear the difference our good deeds make
Skip it out
Our main task today was to clear out the bin store area and empty everything into the skip
Michelle, Chrissy, Ashu, Darren, Rachel and Keira jumped straight into this task! Keira literally jumped into the bin store and Darren actually jumped into a full skip... Never seen so many happy runners with their hands in soggy bin bags
Great job though Team Gloves
Another Brick In The Wall
Ricky and Dan Our tools men needed little persuasion to don the gloves and the mask and got straight to work on scrubbing off the peeling paint from the brick wall
Don't stop be-leafing
The rest of the team cleared away bags of Autumn leaves and public litter from the car park areas.
Once again, so great to see how 30 minutes of our voluntary work has on the task owners premises..
Thank you team Goodgym Slough for such a great effort again.
To Plank or Not to Plank..
Meera said Not! so after one round of plank vs run, we let our newest runner decide for us ( much to the relief of everyone else)
Missions Are Go!
Pleased to report that we are getting some Mission referrals on the system and GoodGym central are busy pairing verified runners with missions
If I have checked your docs and they have been approved then please double check your settings (via profile pic) and make sure you click 'mission' under settings
Chris and I look forward to doing the first mission in a few weeks
Slight change to next weeks task. Claire from WWT has asked if we could help label pavement drains with Yellow Fish Plagues rather than cutting back the brambles around the stream. More details under Group Runs
Social!
Michelle suggested we have our first social! Everyone unanimously agreed.. so lets get a date in the diary..
I've set up a what's app group.. to join it just send me a message (07718 905 286)
We can use this group to agree tasks, training runs, put forward any suggestions... and book the odd social...
Thanks again to everyone who came this evening

Oops we did it again! 20 runners ran to The Parvaaz Project (www.taha.org.uk) on Northampton Avenue to show what we could do in just 30 minutes.
What a great turnout we had today... new runners joining us every week.. big shout out to Keira, Alex, Helen and Aneta on their first Group Run and for getting stuck into their first task!
Knees to meet you
GoodGym Slough are all about getting to know you and partner work! And this week was no different... A warm up game of knee tag with a complete stranger.. what better way to get to know you hey!
Followed by a short run out of Salt Hill Park to meet Alex again at the task site.
Massive Impact
Alex, once again gave us a warm welcome and overview of their Community Organisation and the impact our support two weeks ago had on their center users.
Swept Away
Always so lovely hear positive feedback from our task owners...our GoodGymers were ready to get stuck in. Alex had quite a few tasks for us this evening... so we divided into 4 groups
Lovin' it
A lot of brushes did a lot of sweeping! Aneta, Keira and Emily took on the painting duty and in Keira's words... she was 'lovin' it'
Rake it up!
Michael, Ricky, Dan and Alex took to the raking...men with tools on a mission to clear those leaves.... whilst our lovely ladies Michelle, Emma and Jo took great care and pride in clearing those lively leaves
Litter bugs me!
Tim, Rachel, Sandy, Lorraine, Anna and Helen did a great job of clearing the front entrance of the center of litter.. it looked like a different place!
Weed it up
A speedy bit of weeding by Chris, Ashu.... they literally removed anything they didn't like
Rather than ever clean a window... I just tell people they're frosted!
Well... not our Chrissy... those window sills went from a darker shade of grey to pure brillant white!
Wow! What a busy evening we had... but its never quite over!
A 1.5km run back... a bit of out n' back running and a cool down session.... once again... thank you to each and every one of you for the difference you've made on this Monday evening to one of our local community organisations...
We will be back to see Alex in a few weeks time
A holiday? Who wants to rest on bank holiday Monday anyway?
Goodgym Slough Group Run will be on next Monday and we will be helping our local gymnastics club with leaflet distributions in the local area
Have a great week everyone... thank you again for coming along.

13 Runners ran 3km to help The Parvaaz Project
Our 2nd Slough Group Run and we did good. Great to see so many people returning to get fit and do another task this evening and a warm welcome to Dan on his first GoodGym session. Thirteen runners came along to our central meeting point at the Salt Hill Activity Centre to get their fingers green and help a small yet vital community group The Parvaaz Project to restore some life into their little communal garden
( https://parvaaz-project-taha.business.site) for its centre users to enjoy again.
Massive help!
After a welcome brief and brief warm up, we headed out 1.5km to the centre, where Alex, the Deputy Manager gave us the warmest of welcomes and an overview of the centre and how our efforts this evening will hugely help the centre and its users. Alex's welcome brief was heart warming and left everyone wanting to dig right in literally! The team divided up into smaller groups and got stuck into their self assigned roles of:
Man on a Mission
Ashu saw the tools and his superpowers took over! He was a man on a mission to knock down the dilapidated posts....One man...one axe...one swipe and it was all over! Well done Ashu!
Only two weeks in and we realise that Ricky is a man who likes a tool! Last week it was the wheelbarrow, this week it was the rake...I wonder what it could possibly be next week??
Jacqui and Nisha did a great job at litter picking.... between them and Micheal on sweeping duty they cleared up over 12 bags of rubbish and dried up leaves from the main car park area. The rest of the team did a brilliant job at reviving some life back into this garden. Everyone commented on how much can be achieved in 30 minutes by 13 people and they all 'Got That Feeling' that I'm surprised we didn't break out into a Justin T song and dance routine...maybe next week?......You totally smashed it tonight team...well done!
Nearly half a century
Jenni, a long term GoodGymer and Ealing Task Forcer is nearly on her 50th good deed! Slough are honoured to be her number 49!
And they think its all over
Thirty minutes in and tools down...tidy up done...site locked up and we head off back to base... Only, its not quite over just yet. Manjit had a nice little fitness session lined up for everyone...few fartleks.....with some added running drills....bit of 'me to you' core work with cones as a bonus...and everyone was happy!
Hat-trick?
Next week's task is to help the Jubilee River Riverside Centre with a spruce up. It's a short 4km total distance (2km there and 2km back) with a 30-40 minute task in between...would be great to see the 2nd timers make it a hat-trick and even better to see any new runners/do gooders come join us. The run is listed under 'upcoming runs', please feel free to sign up.
Dont forget we are on instagram, facebook and twitter..... all under GoodGym Slough so please tweet, like and follow us
Hope to see you all next week Manjit
