Last night 21 GoodGymers ran 4k to weed at Grove Park Allotments
A whopping three times more people than last week gathered at Old Spike Roastery last night to spend their Wednesday night getting fit and doing some good.
Big shout out and a cheer for Annemie and Simran who made this their first ever GoodGym run!
We headed off 2km down an unfamiliar route to meet Liz at Grove Park Allotments. On the way we stopped twice - once to sit in a primal squat (try it when you're brushing your teeth) and once to set against the wall (see photo) - building stronger legs for all that running! GoodGym Southwark has visited Grove Park many times over the years and is particularly fond of their beekeeper Gian Franco who is as passionate about his bees as he is about sustainability. We look forward to seeing him in the coming months! Liz let us loose on her tools and showed us the path that needed weeding and an empty lot that needed clearing of rubbish. There was also an opportunity to strim but sadly the spool wasn't quite right and in spite of valiant efforts to fix it, there was no strimming to be had.
Whilst everyone was weeding and strimming, Liz took Helena round to search out pinhole cameras she'd set up in various places to keep an eye on the wildlife. Remembering where they had been placed in the dark was harder than expected! The weeds were swept up into biodegradable bags and after 30 mins of hard work we'd filled quite a few!
We waved goodbye to Liz and set off back down the hill to base.
A great task and a great way to spend your Wednesday evening. Well done team!
Keep running happy, Lucy J

Emily Brearley-Bayliss has done their first good deed with GoodGym.
Emily is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.

7 runners ran 5km to spread the GoodGym word in Southwark
Come hell or high water every Wednesday evening runners can be found gathering at Old Spike Roastery to do some running and some good in their local community. Last night was no exception! We spent our Valentines spreading love... (in the form of GoodGym leaflets).
A big welcome and hello to Emily and Erik who joined us for their first GoodGym run
We braved the rain and the wind for a quick warm up on the green before heading off to an undisclosed location which turned out to be... Telegraph Hill. What were we doing there you ask? The clue's in the name! On reaching a vantage point we admired the view for as long as the weather would allow (looking forward to going back in Spring when it's lighter!).
Our task? To deliver GoodGym leaflets to the good people of Telegraph Hill. How did we do it? The runners split into two teams on either side of the road and did a leaflet relay, the front runner posting a leaflet to the house at the top of the hill and coming back to tag in the second runner who posted one at the next house. We focused on two things whilst going up the hill: having our arms at 90 degree angles to our body and swinging them like a pendulum and taking shorter steps than usual. After one leg of the relay each, the two teams finished their respective side of the road together and off we headed home, popping the last few leaflets in letterboxes as we went.
A big cheer for Hanna who did her 47th deed tonight - nearly at the big 5-0 Hanna let's do this!
A great task well done team, I expect the calls to come rolling in anytime now.
See you next week!
