A delightful way to kick off a Sunday morning - a brand new task, picking up litter across Clapham Common with a lovely bunch of people.
We met Robert from Lambeth Parks who gave us our gear and suggested the areas that we head to. They'd already picked up 8 tonnes of rubbish from bins around the park from yesterday but he assured us there was still plenty more.
Whilst some of us were doing the nitty gritty jobs of picking up bottle tops and sweet wrappers, others were picking up empty beer cans (and some full ones... 🙄) and even a broken gazebo that some people had left...
It's a shame that so many people decide to leave all their rubbish but good that we could help out. Passers-by really appreciated what we were doing - a couple of us said we'd never had such nice feedback at a GoodGym task so that was nice! Hopefully we encouraged some people to join us in the future!
20+ bags of litter and a few drops off rain later, we called it a day.
Great work everyone and nice to see/meet you! 💥
Keep an eye out for the next one of these coming soon hopefully 🤞

Great to catch up with Rob again at another food delivery mission. Pret has enough leftovers for one person this time so Rob fulled his panniers whole I did a food shop for a neighbour. Great not to waste food or energies today!

Another successful session at Brixton Windmill where we did a whole selection of jobs!
After a bit more than an hour in the sun we headed off home, or in Sam’s case mission no3 of the day 🚀

We had a lovely little gang this morning for a couple of tasks at the delightfully lush Ruskin Park Community Garden.
Top of the agenda was digging out the good stuff from the bottom of the compost heap. We then had to sift it in order to get rid of some of the twigs. Justin had a few little sieves but as pretty experienced sievers, we suggested a shopping, which they did actually have!
So we filled up the wheel barrows, emptied it into the trolley and shook it to let the good stuff into a sack underneath. The twigs went back onto the pile to decompose for longer.
Zara also did some chopping back of the wilder bit of the garden which was enveloping a nice circle of log seats.
After a warm hour of working we called it a day and the Justin and Sadie kindly gave us all some spinach to take home! Sam and Esse were off to the Windmill for their second of three missions for the day(!) and Zara and I headed home.

After a year of being closed, the Venue community centre was ready to be opened so it could again be used as a charity hq, food sharing hub and space for local people. But first it needed a bit of TLC- enter Goodgym! The first job was sorting out all the food donations, and the team wasted no time getting stuck in. There was plenty of good stuff to be stored, although a crate of mouldy beetroots were way (waaay) beyond redemption. In just an hour the place was looking a much better, brilliant to see what a bit of elbow grease can do. We’ll be back next week to do sone more work getting it ready. Amazing job GG crew!
