Happy Birthday to us!
We just turned 3 years old! Seems like yesterday when we started with a handful of regulars and no post run beers to now with a big bunch of regular runners, regular post run beers and a whole host of extra curricular things going on all thanks to our amazing community of runners who like to get fit and do good
We welcomed first time GG runner Charlotte Owen who was up from London to get her first taste of GG fun.
Give her a cheer!
This week we were back off to help SENSATIONAL SUSTRANS SIMON on the National Cycle Network. We ran uphill to Manor to and an access point to the NCN which is covered over with trees, which makes it beautiful, though very slippery at this time of the year with the leaves falling.
Fear not, GG were to the rescue with a mass of people with stiff bristled brushes we soon got the technique to a tee with lines and then piles being formed in sweet synchronicity. We very quickly filled two builders bags with leaves and pilled the rest of the leaves on the side of the path to compost and leave the path free of slippery leaves.
In addition to the leaf sweeping we did a litter pick which ended with 9 bags of rubbish and a heater fan!
Two other teams formed and help to edge the path and cut back any overgrowing overgrowth!
With it being the birthday with beers and cake awaiting we gave the fitness session a miss just this week so that we had time to get to the pub in time for our booked buffet, kindly organised by Kim who had also made a pro level cake which was delicious.
Good times and celebrations were had and happy birthday was sung!
Here's to the next three years!
Happy Running :)

This week nineteen Sheffield GGers set aside their evening to help out Simon at Sustrans. Thankfully, the northern weather patterns finally aligned and we didn't get soaked to the bone, which made a change... After a short run to the task we took up tools and worked on the three jobs Simon had set us; 1) litter picking 2)vegetation chopping and 3)sweeping the paths of leaf debris. Sweeping proved particularly popular!
Like a well-oiled machine, all GoodGymers completed their tasks with extreme efficiency and soon there was no more left to be done. After bidding farewell (until next time!) to Simon, we headed back to the Showroom. En-route, we incorporated a few hill sprints as our fitness session. Despite many runners having raced the Ten10Ten the previous day, there was some serious speed! Great job everyone!
After the hills, there was another short run back to base for stretches, news, and drinks ☺️

After welcoming new GG runners Hayley and Kate - please give them a cheer :) on this very moist evening in Sheffield 22 hard core GG runners pipped it 1.4 miles from the Showroom to meet Lucy from Abundance to pick apples from one resident's apple trees. Fighting food waste, many cooking and eating apples were collected, picked and sorted into firsts and seconds to be shared by Abundance with the local community. Wet, Wet Wet rewrite: "I feel it in my fingers... I feel it in my toes... Rain is all around us, and so the coldness grows" The GG good apple team pressed on back at a speedy pace to get dry and warm back at the Showroom. Thanks everyone :)

Eighteen Good Gym runners braved the rain and the dark, and the hills of Healey , to help Healey Green Veg clear a derelict garden so that it can be brought bag in to use. Gareth from Regather joined us with a selection of tools and we set about digging, hacking, pulling and barrowing: there was just one instruction - 'I want to see bare earth!' So we dug and we hacked and we pulled and we barrowed and the rain fell and some people got so into the task they had to be persuaded to stop. Then time for a group photo and it was all down hill back to the Showroom to celebrate Stephen and Kim's birthday with cake.
