Exploring London: LSE Summer School x GoodGym #4

Westminster Report written by Denzel Kessie

🌍 LSE Summer School x GoodGym #4

The power of running strikes again. Denzel the GoodGym run leader took students from multiple cultures together again for the 4th LSE Summer School run that will continue until mid August.

As usual, we all meet outside of The World Turned Upside Down globe where everyone got acquainted before we got into our warm ups. With the route being very busy till we reached Green Park, I gave the team tips on how to navigate the busy streets safely. Everyone felt more free running through Green Park, they were surprised to found such a good running spot in Central London that didn't involve the Thames path. Once we reached Buckingham Palace, I got the team to stand in front of the gates for a nice group photo which they all wanted me to airdrop later (I did).

From there we ended up running down The Mall, a very iconic running spot as it's where the finish line is for the London Marathon. Carlo has big dreams of eventually being able to run the London Marathon so I made sure to let him know when we were close. Being where the finish line was brought a lot of excitement, and finding out the tarmac on The Mall is red to create the effect of a red carpet added more excitement for the team.

We soon reached Westminster where everyone got to see the iconic red phone booth, a good number of the team thought we still used the phone booths so it came as a big shock for them to find out we rarely touch them now. Once we passed the Big Ben, the team were blessed with another great running route, a straight line down from Westminster to Temple near the Thames. The route only had a small amount of crossings and there's a lot of space for groups to run through without disturbance.

When we reached the hill in Strand, I had everyone wait at the top so I could help Julia out. I want to give a special shout out to her as she's just getting into running but tried her hardest every step of the way. Even with the hill. From there we made our way back to LSE, then I took the team through some cool down stretches before we parted ways. Another successful run.
