A bumper group of runners turned out last night for the Group Run and were greeted with perfect summer running conditions.
AA Yianny was recovering from the weekend's exertions in York so wouldnt be running to the task but both Joao and Sarah stepped in to lead and back mark respectively - thank you team!
This evening's category was favourite UK destination with plenty of coastal and countryside locations cited, some North vs South Devon devate and of course agreement that Brixton and Tulse Hill were the clear winners....
The runners set off and showed that in London using human horse power can be more efficient than motorised transport and arrived to meet Justin first! The tasks were laid out and the group selected their implements of choice whether that be a scythe, secateurs or good old pitch fork and we got stuck in to clear around the pond and turn the compost.
A nice surprise was having GG member Chi Nwa join us for a chat and take a couple of wonderful pictures, always nice to have members from around the communities pop in.
While the runners were busy with the task Justin brought out some squash and biscuits for a little pause and then it was time to tidy up and head back to base. Once again the runners won the race and were deep into their warm down by the time the AA made it back to liberate their bags from the hall.
Thanks everyone and look forward to seeing you next week!

Valcie has been kind enough to let us use Papa's Park in Brixton for years to begin our group runs from, it's the perfect place centrally located with a room we can lock our belongings safely in and a play area where we do our warm ups and intros. In return we wanted to help spruce up the place so tonight was our Papa's Park Task! 💙
Lovely warm weather and late evening sunshine meant perfect conditions and we had a good sized group back to our steady double figures which was great. Super Sam was just back from holiday (he practically ran from Gatwick to Papa's to take part!) so the topic of conversation was travelling with friends and the different personalities that brings and favourite holiday destination. 🌞
Some people chose very specific locations (a particular island in the Philippines) while others hedged their bets and picked whole countries (France / Italy) and we had fire (Maldives) and ice (Iceland) so all bases were really covered. Now about splitting the bill at the end of the trip with your friends...... 😅
We set off on a brisk 3km ring from Papa's, round to Clapham North, up Bedford Road, left onto Acre Lane and then a wiggle through Trinity Gardens / Brixton High St and back to Papa's. Three members of Lambeth's run team (go Katy, go Kaz) who are travelling to York this weekend were present and keeping themselves primed for York ParkRun and the York 10K! 🤩
Once we were back our tasks were to weed the outer perimeter of the park, water all the plants and veggies and clear the leaves starting to fall (and of course a quick litter sweep). 🍁 🍂
With the size of the group this task was complete in no time at all and despite the offer of a HIIT session to wrap things up folks were sidling towards the gate waving and saying goodbye rather too loudly..... ⏱
Another fun evening in the bag and 3 big black sacks full of leaves to show for our efforts, big thanks to all and see some of you this weekend in York and others next week.

We had a bumper group of runners this evening, all eager to find out what was in store with this week's task. Our social cause was to honour the memory of Maud Arbery whose life was sadly taken while out for an evening run.
The Lambeth community ran 3.5kms - 2.23 miles to mark the tragic day of his passing (Feb 23 2020) - and did 28 squats at the halfway point to mark what would have been his 28th Birthday this month.
And so on to more positive things, who was the mysterious beneficiary of tonight's task? Well what more worthy cause than GoodGym itself?! That's right, we are aiming to put Lambeth GG back where it was pre pandemic with 30+ runners at the group run, Missions throughout the week and hopefully multiple group runs to cover the whole of the Lambeth area! To do that we need more GoodGymers and to get those we needed flyers of course, and the team at GG central came through big time, with high quality postcard style adverts featuring our very own (and soon to be world renowned) Michael!
We were delighted to welcome along Hannah for her first ever GG run, and lo and behold she discovered both a fellow colleague from her current work site and one from her previous site on the run as well - #smallworld/GoodGym - great to have you with us Hannah!
The group returned from the run to the area immediately surrounding our base at Papa's Park and began posting in earnest, earlier in the evening we wondered if we could get through so many flyers but in the end we almost exhausted the entire 3 bundles (although there is some discussion as to whether Sam and Joao were flyering or went into someone's home for a cup of tea and biscuits as they were the only pair to return with any spares.....)
We finished pretty quickly so it was time for a beloved fitness session at Papa's before a cool down and chance to share all the exciting upcoming GG activities - check out the website or your weekly fitness email - such as Lambeth training sessions (see here) GoodGym summer Rounders (18th June) and the Lambeth x York Weekender!
Big thanks as well to Effie and Katie who did a walking session and grabbed some excellent pics, vids and errr boomerangs....?!
