Cream on top?

Norwich Report written by Ian Gostling

Tonight 9 GoodGymer's returned to Frere Road Community Centre to continue giving the exterior walls a fresh coat of paint.

Focusing on the front of the building we were given a new colour 'Cornish Cream' to brighten things up! Which led to the discussion - what do you spread on your scone first, cream or jam??

The dust sheets were laid out, and everyone spread out armed with rollers, brushes & step ladders for the hardest to reach areas. Woody also finished off the remaining white wall that we couldn't complete on our last visit.

Once we were finished it was time for a quick social and some birthday celebrations at the pub!

Thanks again to Claire for organising and cleaning all the tools for the task.

Wood-you like some-chips?

Norwich Report written by Ian Gostling

Tonight 5 GoodGymer's returned to Marlpit Community Garden, to support this volunteer run venue.

We began filling wheelbarrows with woodchip, transporting it to the back of the orchard to use as mulch for the fruit trees. Then on the way back we helped clear a pile of chopped wood, rubble and cardboard, carrying it to the central bonfire area. While this took up most of the evening, Liz & Jack were also able to give the herb garden a much needed trim.

The hour flew by and with the sun still shining we ran, cycled & walked back to the city. Well done team!

We’re Stumped!

Norwich Report written by Sarah

16 Goodgymers attended our Monday session to support our local warden Will, to care for Mousehold Heath, an important local habitat.

Will explained to the group the extent of a recent wild fire and all they were doing to reduce local fire risks.

We split into a 3 groups; one moving a drying pile of old bracken, one group bracken pulling, and one removing pockets of gorse and stumps to support fire engine access routes.

A very warm welcome to Eve and well done for joining your first GoodGym session.

Don’t wanna skip this one

Norwich Report written by Jonathan

First to arrive at the allotment was Andrew shortly followed by Jonathan and Sarah. Whilst they waited for Jack, they helped open the very heavy skip roof followed by the exciting news that there was food and biscuits to reward them after their mission was completed.

Moving down to the allotment, the task was to clear as much large plastic and general waste as possible from two adjacent allotments to the skip ready for new tenants to arrive. Items included broken plastic tables, pots and many plastic wrappers and broken wood.

As the task got away, Jack arrived to give a much wanted helping hand just as the sun shone at its brightest. The heat made for hard work and before we knew it, time was up and a busy and productive day.

Hoo-ver-dunnit!

Norwich Report written by Ian Gostling

Our biggest group of the year - 19 GoodGymer's assembled at Oxfam store Magdalen Street.

Shout out's to Emma attending her first session, Maddy & Jack returning after a break, and Stephen who completed his 250th session!

In a scene similar to 60 Minute Makeover, Emily gave out the tasks for the evening (clean as much as possible) and the team spread out armed with hoovers, dusters, scrapers, tackling any surface that needed a clean. Even the toilet floors were given a thorough working over!

The floor downstairs was the main target, with dirt marks leaving a trail like foot prints - the big question was who was the culprit?

In a hour we had covered nearly every shelf, table and flooring, leaving the store looking transformed!

Well done team, it was a fantastic effort. Also best wishes to Jordan who moves north next month.
