I Saw the Sign!

Birmingham Report written by Jonny Carter

This week as if with myself being one Yorkshireman wasn't enough, we had another, yes it was fantastic to meet Michael from GG York enjoy the Brum canals with us.

Tonight's task was to firstly spot the Sustrans National Cycle network signs and secondly clean them. We headed off along the canal all the way to Spaghetti junction, meeting our walking group of Amy, Melanie and Nadia at Aston Lock. They walked North to clean some signs and we ran further to clean the signs up towards Spaghetti. This week's pun came from Jamila, we did have one from Matt, but on running back i've forgot what it was! Anyway i'm sure it's a popular pun for Ace of Base fans!

Once reaching Spaghetti we saw the most amazing sunset, I just had to take a picture! Then the group headed back with Balal, literally running into the sunset! That was a good 10km covered in total, so well done team :)

Cinderellas and the Grass Slippers

Birmingham Report written by Balal Qureshi

This evening we were back at the Oasis Foundry School to continue the great work we have been doing. We had two groups today - a group of walkers who set off early and a group of runners who set off later, so we all met at the school around the same time.

We met Meghan there who briefed us on the tasks we needed to do and split us into two groups again. One group went to the school to move some sticks and branches to the wildlife area whilst the other group picked litter in the park opposite the school, making it nice and tidy for the kids to use.

Once we were finished we all walked across the grassy field and got our feet wet (hence the pun) to have a look at the wildlife area and how its progressed. The great work we've been doing alongside Oasis Foundry School was evident and the area was thriving. The pond and bee bank is looking great and the wildlife area is being used to grow a variety of vegetables, including pumpkins which look like they'll be nice and ready for Halloween.

Once we were finished, we had a look at the community pantry which we will be painting on our next visit, before we ran and walked back to 1000 Trades.

Thanks everyone for coming and for your hard work - well done!
