Slim Pickings

Sheffield Report written by Tom Mutton (he/him)

Last night was our 10th anniversary/birthday!

WOW! Time flies!

It was great to see some past GG regulars come out last night! Great to see Stephen, Dana and Sergiu! Hope to see you all back again soon!

Celine set off a bit earlier walking and timed it to perfection with the running group meeting her at the task location just as task owner Karen was heading back to her car to get more equipment as she wasn't expecting so many runners!

We got straight to it, getting tooled up with pickers, bags and rings, gloves on and head torches on now that the clocks have changed.

Generally it wasn't too bad compared to how we have seen this area. The strong winds may have had something to do with it, moving the litter around. One thing was very clear was that there was a distinct lack of bins in the area!

Find of the night has to go to Katy who found a large teddy bear, who looked like they had seen better days!

Once we were back to base most of us headed to The Rutland Arms for some food and drink and to share stories of past favourite tasks. We even had cake!

Here's to another 10yrs of GG SHF!

10 years! Wow time flies. I remember the launch back in 2016 and it's great to see GG Sheffield going strong 10 years later. Amazing really - nearly 10,000 good deeds in that time as well https://www.goodgym.org/areas/sheffield/stats

Brightening Up Our Routes!

Sheffield Report written by Shahram Yaqoobi

We met at the Showroom Cinema, welcomed everyone, and set off on our run towards the River Don. There, we met Andy from the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust. He gave us the equipment and described the task. We started litter picking along the routes. Although it was dark, we tried our best — everyone was so supportive and nice! We ran about 3km and came back to the Showroom Cinema, and before leaving, we did some cool-down stretches. Thank you Michelle and everyone for your support!

Greenfingers and Good Company at Heeley Green!

Sheffield Report written by Shahram Yaqoobi

We met up at The Showroom Cinema. We welcomed everyone and set off for the Heeley Green Community Garden. Upon arrival, we met with Fran Elliot who explained the tasks needed to spruce up the area. We all split up in various directions and worked hard, tackling a mix of weeding, tidying the garden area, litter picking, and trimming back some bushes and overgrown weeds. It was dry weather which made tidying up much easier. Altogether, we made a massive difference to this fantastic community garden for local residents to enjoy. A great team with excellent cooperation, chats, and hard work. Thank you to everyone who supported this session and continues to care for the community space.

Common Threads (and a few uncommon ones!)

Sheffield Report written by Amelia

Although this is Sheffield Goodgym's shortest run, it packs a tall - but enjoyable - task. The common thread project, held at the coworking space on Union Street, is flooded with clothes donations of all kinds, from accessories to baby clothes to jumpers and skirts. We joined other volunteers helping the project by sorting clothes into specific piles to later sort into charity packages ("is it a top or is it a dress?!!"). Aided by some coffee and biscuits, we got through the adult clothes quickly and then moved on to sorting the kids clothes into age order. Overall, the task was very fun and it's great to see a noticeable difference and think towards all the people and projects these clothes will be helping in the future

10 to Walk. Wheel, Cycle tracks

Sheffield Report written by Annie Anthony Mays

10 Goodgymmers met up at The Showroom Cinema. Sharsm welcomed everyone. A big Welcome to Lesley who we have not seen for a very long time. He says he will start coming more often now that he is back in Sheffield. We all ran up to meet up with Craig who was waiting for us at the junction of Cricket Inn Road and Maltravers Road. Craig then explained to us the main task of 'Litter Picking' and gave us tools, gloves, bin bags,etc...We all then split up in various directions and worked in pairs. There were lots of rubbish including cans and bottles which made the bin bags heavier than expected. Altogether we collected 13 Full Bin Bags. Gerry then gave us biscuits as a treat. Thank you Gerry and she also ran with us from the Showroom and back again with us. A great team with cooperation, chats and worked hard. Thank you all who supported this organization.
