Tonight we headed to a brand new GoodGym location - Cuttleslowe Greenhouse. This lovely community space helps people connect with nature, food, and each other. After being closed for a few years, it’s finally being brought back to life. On a bright spring evening, we got to play a part in its reopening.
Our task definitely leaned toward the gym side of GoodGym. We shifted heavy piles of garden waste across the site, including some very large branches. Over the evening we experimented with every possible method - wheelie‑bin shuttles, dragging or carrying sacks, and even the occasional overhead branch lift. We also rescued some compost to be reused in the greenhouse’s raised beds. Before heading home, we picked up some great souvenirs: postcards about the project and packets of seeds to grow at home. Among the gifted seeds were peas, calendula, and basil.
We’re already looking forward to returning to the greenhouses in future tasks!
Welcome to Goodgym Jacqueline! We're so happy you could join us this evening!

Laura earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Laura completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Laura was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Today we returned to Littlemore for tea and cake, oh sorry, I mean helping in the village hall garden.
The village hall in Littlemore has a lovely garden which requires a bit of TLC every now and then. A nettle patch created to attract bees and butterflies had encroached on a flower bed, weeds had popped up in a lawn area, various plants needed pruning and leaf piles created.
Armed with tools, and luxury of all luxury at a gardening task, kneeler pads we set to work and after a couple of hours the space was looking ship shape and shiny.
We then were treated to tea, cake and chat in the village hall - glorious!

This evening we returned to the Orchard Triangle. We have a long history with this space, having helped plant and maintain the trees and done lots of weeding and clearing over the past few years.
Over the summer the grass around the fruit trees has got rather long, brambles have started to creep in and some large branches needed chopping and clearing.
Armed with a variety of tools and our usual can-do attitude we cracked on and left the space looking a lot tidier by the end.
A few of us then trotted off into the dusky evening for our post task run, head torches were a must, autumn has certainly arrived.

This evening we returned to St. Nicholas' Primary School to continue the sprucing up of their garden and Forest School area.
Weeds have started to poke their way through some of the weed matting and brambles are creeping over the fence line. Bramble prickles and primary school children are not a good combination!
Armed with loppers, choppers and sturdy gloves we set to work, with one eye on the light - the evenings really are getting darker as autumn plods along.
After an hour and a bit the space was looking a lot neater and we all trotted off for our evening exercise!
Welcome to Goodgym Laura, so lovely to meet you!
