14 runners braved storm Brendan and ran 2 k to help re-decorate the Parish Room at St David’s Church, a room that is used for a soup kitchen and various other charity work. They also smashed out some hill reps and a fitness session. Excellent work!
A very warm welcome to Darragh, Clàudia and Terry who joined us for the first time. Fantastic to have you with us! We hope you enjoyed it despite it being such a stormy evening and we hope to see you soon again!
The rain had been pouring all afternoon but very kindly turned in to a soft drizzle as we gathered outside the Phoenix for a welcome speech and warm-up session. After A LOT of LAUGHING, some high knees, jogging, coordination work and some active stretches we felt ready to go running and set of towards the task locatioin, St Davids Church. A big thank you to Helen who back marked the whole way so that no-one got left behind!
A bit wetter but very cheery we arrived to St Davids Church where we were welcomed by Pete and Glynis who explained what needed doing. We quickly got stuck in and in 45 minutes we managed to:
It was like a whirlwind of workers hit us!
Top work guys! It will never stop to amaze me how much we can get done by working like this together! Just imagine what another 2 weeks of working there will do!
After working hard we were rewarded with a lovely cup of tea and biscuits in the church. Such a nice way to finish of a great session! Thank you Glynis and Pete! Refueled and happy with what we had achieved we set off running again. We quickly made our way to the Iron Bridge, where we just had to stop for some lovely hill reps (one simply got to make the most of all these beautiful hills in our city! Don’t you just love them!)
After that we carried out a strengthening session which included 5 types of squats and 5 types of lunges. Super well done all of you! You smashed it! I just have to apologies that we didn't get time for any Sally Squats.. I promise it won't be long till next time though he he he!
When we returned to the Phoenix we carried out some stretches and talked about how important the cool down is as part of your training. It is here that you prepare your body for your next session and make sure you reduce the risk of injury. So keep up the good work with that guys, as well as your regular training of course.
As always I left feeling so happy to have been out running and doing good with all of you guys! No matter the weather, no matter the dark evenings, no matter what task we complete, it is always one of the best part of my week! Totally Terrific Tuesdays! I hope to see you all next week when we will return to St Davids Church and continue our work with refurbishing the parish room. Sign up here if you can make it.
On Sunday 19th we are also doing an extra group run as starter session. If you know anyone who is keen to come along and find out what the GoodGym is all about please let them know about this! We will run 3 k and help Powderham Crescent Residence Association with some gardening tasks. It will be awesome, sign up hereto come along!

11 amazing runners came out in the cold and crips evening to help distribute Exwick News, a community magazine. Not only did they run 6 k, they also marched up some of the steepest hills in Exeter to carry out the task! Amazing effort getting fit and doing good!
Welcome Tim, Markus and Carmen who joined us for the first time from the YMCA. It was great having you with us and we hope you enjoyed it!
We started our evening with a safety briefing and some big shout outs as we have a lot of great stuff going on in our area:
We then carried out a dynamic warm up session, including lots of high knees, sumo steps, lunges and Frankenstein steps. After that we were ready to go and we set off towards Exwick, excited for the GoodGym to reach a new area in Exeter!
There was a lot of laughing and chatting as we ran, always so lovely to hear! We re-grouped at regular intervals so that no-one got left behind and made the most of the stops to work on strengthening by doing a variety of squats, and lunges. Big thank you to Joe who back marked the whole way and even handed out some toffees to keep the energy levels up!
When we arrived to Exwick we were welcomed by Rob, who is in charge of the distribution of Exwick News, a community magazine in which information about events and ideas for the area are shared. This edition also mentioned the GoodGym! Best news ever! Our help to make the magazine reach as many households as possible this evening was very appreciated.
In 35 minutes we managed to distribute 350 magazines! Great work team!
The delivery route took us up some of the steepest hill in Exeter and on top of that one runner had to climb over 30 steps to reach a front door, so it is safe to say that everyone got REALLY FIT whilst doing good! We were so lucky to have the most amazing full moon shining above us and we also got to enjoy a stunning view of Exeter below us. Really beautiful!
On the return run we carried out some Indian running. We formed a single file of runners and had the last runner sprinting to the front, a great and fun way to improve speed! Brilliant effort everyone!
Back at the Phoenix we stretched out all major muscle groups and took a moment to think about how much we had achieved and how fit we have become. Thank you Jo for coming up with the pun for the report during the last few stretches! We also took a minute to go through what's coming up next:
To finish off with with I just have to say that you are such an awesome team! It always puts a smile on my face being out running with you guys and to see how hard you work on ALL tasks presented to you and at ALL fitness exercises I make you do. YOU ARE AMAZING! Can’t wait to see you all again soon! Happy running till then
