Bath Report written by Bath runner
A change of plan to the scheduled task this evening for 16 intrepid runners in Bath but of course that would also mean the addition of a hill or two to the 6k run to DONKEY LANE community garden .
A few announcements before the off with a warm welcome to another Goodgym tourist from GG Greenwich the lovely Amy....whoop!!!
Bath Heroes this month
Mary 8 Good deeds
Alison 188.9k
Remember everyone get signed up on Strava through your Goodgym profile and all your training runs will be logged, you also get to support your fellow runners/vice Versa. Could be a tiebreaker in the making regards hitting the next BIG 50!! Joe at 48 and Mary at 47.
welcome to Caitlin (my daughter) for her first taste of Goodgym fitness and no I didn't force her.
The first part of our run out was nice and flat, that was until we arrived at Hedgemead Park when it became apparent the
only was is up baby, for you and me now
I'm not too hard on them though as they'd already enjoyed a couple of hill sprints to warm up, plus had a breather at the top of the many steps with an opportunity to
squat it like it's Hot or until they drop
Sue was eagerly awaiting the group at the end of perfect view with her tools, our task to help weed to help with the maintenance of this rather large area.
The task for 35 mins
Clearing the Pathways through the herb and veggie area,. Cut back a rather large Kale plant, although this got rather out of hand with poor Jo trying to keep Joe and Sam on task but Sam was literally engulfed in Kale...Ha!! Pretty maids in a row working on the garden paths doing a fabulous job. Steve, Rob and the two Emma's tackled the stingers on the other side of the footpath allowing the young trees some breathing space.
Amy confessed to enjoying the hills with Holly, Megan and Caitlin taking the herbs in hand. Pascale had a lovely bunch of Kale to enjoy in her breakfast smoothie, that might make up for the extra mileage she did tonight.
Time up!!
Group photo and our very own Mexican led wave by Dora to top off the evening.
Thankfully a nice downhill finish back to the leisure centre for a few stretches.
Thanks to Emma for back marking and Joe for our fabulous pun tonight.
Reminder that it's monthly **QUIZ SOCIAL on Thursday at The Boater at 7.30pm, please feel free to come along and bring a little raffle prize to show our support to Rob who will be climbing Kilimanjaro with his brother and is self funding, so the money he raises will go to the charity. A lovely autumnal evening for our 7 super runners for a 4K run along the canal to finish off painting the Widcombe room for Manvers Baptist church.
A bit thinner on the ground than last week but still full of energy and enthusiasm to get fit and do good in our beautiful city. Bring it on!!
A huge Congratulations to everyone who took part in Cardiff half and Bournemouth marathon at the weekend with some PB's in the bag.
Warm up and headcount out of the way, we took advantage of a run along the canal whilst we have some early light left and of course some tricep dips and press-up against the wall were the order of the night to get those arms ready for the task ahead.
Peter was ready and waiting at the church and soon had the group organised and working hard at it for 40 minutes. He quickly identified THE TALL ONES (can see Only be Steve and Ed) in the group and set them to undercoat the picture rail with the rest of the group taking on the skirting and door frames. Items on door duty.
The paint was a dark so it was only a matter of time before someone (aka Ed) got paint on the wall... oh dear!!
Meg and Joe in a competitive mood on the windowsill with minutes to spare whilst Pascale was flitting around with the white spirit (just can't think why) all under the watchful eye of Pete who yet again gave us more life skills to take away. We will return soon to complete the task.Glossing it off.
A very therapeutic task with a lot of banter going on in the room, such a great bunch of people.
It was dark by the time we emerged from the church but my trusty head torch guided us the short distance back to base in safety.
Thank you Ed for the pun and Pascale for back marking tonight.
Don't forget a special run this Saturday, so the more the merrier https://www.goodgym.org/group_runs/it-s-a-big-one-saturday-run
A reminder to bring your ID along for Emily to check at the next group run if you wish to be paired up with your very own isolated older person and speaking from experience, this is extremely rewarding.

A drizzly start for our 18 Bath Goodgym runners tonight for a 5k run up to a community orchard on the Bear flat to cut back the willow so it can be used to make waffle fencing.
Great to see so many new faces tonight so welcome to Anna, Zoe, Dominic and Sophie and to our very own Task force Emily back from her well earned summer break from university.
Warm up and that all important headcount (without a hitch) out of the way with. Emily kindly back marking tonight. It was time to head on up that hill towards the south side of Bath and the flat known as THE BEAR FLAT and our task destination in the community orchard.
Our host was there to greet us armed with secateurs and various tools ready for a bounty of tasks for tonight's group, so splitting into 6 groups with Anna and team learning the art of weaving willow into an arbour. Rosie and Jaxx clearing conquers and debris from the entrance. Mark sawing branches from the over hanging tree whilst Emily and Sophie (our civil engineers) put up a coat hook in the shed. Mim and Meg blackberry picking on site and Steve bagged up more bark chips for Anne's team to manoeuvre across the site. Dominic taking on the challenge of removing wood stumps with a tool I have forgotten the name of (age thing) oops!!
I have to say it was a challenge trying to locate them all to get those all important photos before darkness descended upon us and it was time for a group photo before the run back down to the leisure centre for our stretches.
Thank you Rosie for tonight's pun. Your all such a great bunch to spend a fun Tuesday evening with...its Brilliant!!
A few social drinks tonight to follow For end of month.
