On this warm sunny evening we headed out to the ⚽ 61 Football Club to paint the clubhouse walls and the ironwork on the stand. There were loads of us so it took some time to find everyone a task to do but we got everyone scraping and painting in the end.

We also met two new guys keen to join us, Ashkan and Amir, the team keeps on growing!

Before too long the slightly scruffy clubhouse walls were looking much smarter with a new coat of brick red paint and the ironwork was shining bright blue too.

With all the hard work done, we settled down on the pitch to refresh ourselves with a nice cool Athletic Brew alcohol-free amber ale 🍺, before we began our journeys home.

Two years of GoodGym Luton needed celebrating with style so we met up at the University, welcomed Jelena and Ehsan before setting off to our most iconic task: Tidying the Welcome to Luton gravel sign.

The walkers set off early while the runners warmed up and took a slightly longer route to the task, but both groups had to take on the gruelling hill up to Stockwood Park. On arrival at the sign we found it was not in a terrible shape but we set to work pulling out the weeds that had sprung up since our last visit.

With all the weeds gone it was time for our anniversary photo shoot before heading onwards to celebrate all our achievements at Gill's house where she kindly hosted us for drinks and BBQ.

In the last two years GoodGym Luton members have achieved an amazing 1458 good deeds by 57 different members, we've run over 12600 km and given and received nearly 14000 cheers!

12 of us have achieved 50 good deeds and earned a black shirt while 7 have completed 100 and got their winged shirt!

This week we had another excellent turnout with lots of fresh faces, ready to take on the task of the day.

We had a well timed heavy downpour just before we gathered, which left us with a cool and sunny evening to get a long run done.

We headed out to the Limbury area, following the river to our destination: another riverside patch of invasive Goldenrod plants!

The long distance to the task left us with just a short time to get it completed but with so many hands on deck we managed to grab the vast majority of the troublesome plants and yank them up, adding to the pile that the previous volunteers had started.

We've had a few missions lately backing up the regular conservation volunteers in targeting the goldenrod but with this strike we can declare victory for this year, all the major stands of this pest plant have been pulled up, but we'll keep an eye out for any more that we missed.

This week we started a new relationship with the 61 Football Club where the football ground needs a lick of paint to smarten it up.

We welcomed Abdo to the group for his first session before we set off as a group of runners and a group of walkers on the 4km journey to the Kingsway Recreation Ground, home of 61 FC.

The pitch is surrounded by railings with flaking white paint that needs refreshing so we set to work scraping and cleaning up the surfaces before painting with fresh white paint. At the task we met another Abdo, who joined in and immediately signed up with GoodGym.

The back wall of the stand also got a fresh coat of red paint before we returned to the town centre for chocolate topped cake to celebrate Gill's birthday, Happy Birthday Gill!
