This Saturday Nick headed down to Danson Park to help out with the Woodland Walk.
The team started with cutting back fresh growth along the path before shoveling ground bark chippings into wheel barrows and distribution it all along the woodlands walk.
The great thing about volunteering with the woodland team is you will always getting a lovely drink when you've finished. Perfick!! Well done Nick ๐๐ป

What a lovely evening to be back at The Danson Centre for a spot of good-deeding.
We chopped back bushes and brambles, deadheaded plants and picked up litter, leaving the car park and pathway looking neater and tidier. ๐๐๐ฟ
It was fab having Jenna and Sayeef with us for their first ever GoodGym task.
Another job well done.

Tonight the team were back at Danson Youth Centre. This mission was to get the car park looking spik and span. We started with a little pick with most of the litter hiding in the hedge rows it wasnโt easy to get hold of it, however with perseverance we won the battle.
The next step was the sweeping and clearing up the dry leaves which had packed themselves around the car park edges too. Myself and Luke grabbed the brushes and started sweeping the leaves into piles while Caz and Martin scooped up and bagged those bad boys.
It was also great seeing Nick for the last few minutes, thatโs for coming along
The final result, an awesome looking car park ๐๐ป

Massive task last night as the team took on and won the battle of the over growth. Yep it was time to reclaim the side carpark at the Danson Youth centre and that's exactly what we did.
As the fireworks rained over us we hacked, cut, trimmed and binned colossal amounts of weeds and bushes then finished off with a good sweep of the area.
Thanks to the GG Bexley team that turned out this evening, you are all awesome. see you at the next one ๐๐ป

What a fab evening at the Danson youth centre. As usual we were welcomed by Joy who put us to work straight away. This week we had a few areas that needed tackling. Weeds, Drains, Cutting back and Sweeping up.
With the skies building up for thunder and rain we got busy. The task leader Joy took charge of the bush cutter making easy work of some!! of the bushes as our team swept and cleared weeds from around the rose bushes and plants which had enough to contend with from the dry weather.
We had a great evening chatting and working, what more would you want. We welcomed back Sean who we hadn't seen in a little while too.
Thanks everyone, until the next one ๐๐ป

The soil was dry and dusty after so much sun so we had to dig hard and deep with rakes and spades to harvest our crop of cara potatoes. Helped by two GG regulars, members of Bexley Mencapโs gardening group, swopped their blue t-shirts for red, as we set to work on our allotment plot at Alyers Road.
Luckily, it was a cool evening and we laid down woodchipping in front of the sheds as well as cutting back the weeds and tidying up the borders and pathways for our own plot and those of our neighbours. There was time to pick and eat some cherry tomatoes and spot our first green peppers, too! The runner beans are riding high as well. Weโre also growing peas, winter squash, yellow tomatoes, garlic and onions, raspberries and dwarf and French beans. It all needs watering and weeding so it was a busy but enjoyable time trying to fit everything in.
Great effort by everyone.

What a lovely evening, it was warm but a slight breeze was making the mission bearable. This evening we dived feet first into the brambles so we could reclaim the safety of the childrens skate park.
The team worked tirelessly hacking, cutting and then binning the brambles which weren't coming out quietly, yep they were definitely fighting back delivering hand prickles that produced a couple of ouches!!!
Credit for this weeks pun goes to (drum roll) Luke ๐๐ป๐

GoodGymโs specially select handpicked Mencap duo helped out in the garden at the Exchange in Erith.
First we watered the trees and shrubs and learnt how to recognise different plants such as Myrtle. Then we swopped watering cans for hoes and rakes and weeded the gravel walkways. If it was green โ it went in the bin! Next we sieved a huge bag of compost in preparation for our final task. Moving indoors to the heat of the tram shaped greenhouse, we sieved the compost into three trays, taking care to smooth over the beds using scrapers so they were nice and flat. Then we used a sprinkler to moisten the trays before spreading 3 types of herb seeds, like chicory, into the soil. Adding a layering of compost to dust over the seeds, we moistened the trays again. Louis says the seeds will appear in a few days and will be used as herbs in the kitchen.
