Flyering around the rec

Westminster Report written by Joel Wiles

8 Westminster GoodGymers ran 8k to and around Paddington Rec to deliver 400 leaflets for Open Age for their Learn to Cycle summer programme.

A sticky evening in Centre of Town made for a sweat fest of a run as we powered our way North West of the borough. With a 3.5k run up to our starting point near Maida Vale where we split up the flyer stack and got posting!

Dashing up and down residential streets and estates we were a super fast and efficient delivery squad!! A final push completed the job and left us a solid 4.5k run back to base.

We smashed out a great tempo and were back in perfect time!

Thanks for a great session, see you next week for our visit to One Big Family helping the homeless charity.

Pick up Night

Westminster Report written by Joel Wiles

10 Westminster GoodGymers ran 7k to help the Canal and River Trust keep the Little Venice water ways as clear of rubbish as possible.

Great to have our GG first timers along for the evenings run!

With one of our longer runs ahead we got straight to it making our way to the North West for the borough with a strong 3.5k run. Finishing at the Canal And River Trusts head office on the banks of the Canal in Little Venice we raided our equipment shed to get tooled up for the pick ahead. Buckets, gloves and the super strength grabbers in hand we spread ourselves out along the Canal path with the aim to remove as much rubbish and in particular plastics from the waterways or from the bank to stop it getting in at all.

Filling the buckets up quickly and making a big dent in the litter in Little Venice we grabbed what we could with a few mini fishing expeditions for cans and plastic bottles.

The clock struck 7:30 and what we had we emptied 10 buckets full into the bins before sanitising up and picking up the running pace for the powerful run back to base!!

Back in no time and very sweaty we stretched out and headed off into the summer evening with a physical masterpiece complete.

See you next week

Joel

GoodJam

Westminster Report written by Joel Wiles

8 GoodGymers ran 7k to help One Big Family Homeless Charity make 150 sandwiches for the evening’s food distribution.

Amazing to have a influx of new and returning GoodGym runners this evening!! Thank you all for coming along for the sweaty Central London Run!

We weaved our way South through the busy Central London streets and Royal Parks the 3.5k to Ebury Estate where we met Mike and the very compact team at One Big Family.

A mountain of bread, cheese, jam and spread lay ahead! Splitting into 2 groups to had the cheese crew and the Jamers! Keeping the spreading beat to some of the most for toe tapping tunes ever made!

Double spreading, triangles, rectangles cutting methods and bag tying Techniques caused a lot of controversy amongst the Cheese crew in particular!

With 25 minutes on the clock the deed had been complete just before our outdoor food preparation area got a heavy sprinkle of rain.

With rain drops to dodge we zipped back at a springy pace back to base working up a sweat in the humid London evening air.

All stretched out and ready for a refuel we headed off with a exercise/volunteering combo on the bag!

Hope to see you all next week for our visit to Ark Atwood Primary School memorial garden to put the finishing touches before the grad opening!

In a Hail of Red Thunder

Westminster Report written by Joel Wiles

9 Westminster GoodGymers ran 5k to deliver 400 Open Age leftlets for a new Osteo class to improve bone health in the over 50’s.

A session of all seasons!! Thunderstorms, hail storms, heavy rain, snow and bright Sunshine!!

We headed off taking in the very pretty surroundings of Regents Park before we set to work delivering as many leaflets as we could around the Marylebone and Edgware Road areas for a new heavily subsidised Osteo class aimed at the over 50’s to improve bone health.

A great delivering effort allowed us to post 400 leaflets and leave us enough time for a 10 minute circuit blast of the legs!!

With our legs pumped we ran it back to base at a strong pace to round the session up to a perfect 5k!

See you next week for our visit to One Big Family!

Litter me timbers!!

Westminster Report written by Joel Wiles

12 agile GoodGymers ran a storming 8k to help the Canal And River Trust with our adopted strength of waterway in Little Venice.

Powering out 3.5k to the North West of the Borough lead by the Memory Master Emily!! With codes cracked and all tooled up we got cracking up the canal picking up bucket after bucket of grabable rubbish.

Eagle eyes were needed even with the super moon out in force. Cans to carpet, crisp packets to garden rakes everything was picked and binned!

After 35 minutes of litter picking efforts we had done a fantastic job so with our hands fully sanitised up we we powered our way back to base (faster than the cars along the Marylebone Road) with a task brilliantly complete!!

Next week we are off to St Andrew’s youth club to help them with a few sorting out jobs!

See you there

Joel
