Bromley's new green Hub opens to the public on Thursday so we were drafted in to finish a few jobs!
Our first task was to sand down the skirting around the room, which got us questioning... what's the point of skirting boards?! Probably just an aesthetic thing. 🤷♂️
After a quick wipe down, we then moved onto the painting stage, getting down some masking tape to make the finish as smooth as possible.
Tamasin gave us a cup of tea and we sampled some of her delicious vegan flapjack! 😋
We even had to do a little acting as there was a photographer and film maker there to document the progress of The Hub.
A lovely morning with some lovely people.
Fantastic stuff guys! 👌💥

Today's task was to help out Living Well and their food bank with checking and packing "Christmas Bags" - a more festive version of their regular packages they give to those that need them.
Members of the public were asked to provide specific things (salmon, shower gel, coffee, festive biscuits, tinned fruit...etc.) and we were there to check that everything was there.
Firstly we shifted all the bags into the church, before getting on with going through each bag and matching them with the list of food. If there was something missing, we'd grab it from the usual food bank stock, and then we'd top the bags up with mince pies and other Christmas treats!
Once they were all filled, we moved the bags back into the containers outside. A good test of brain power, speed and muscle! 🧠🏃💪
Mary from Living Well sent me this after the session:
"A big thank you to everyone who helped today with Christmas bags. If we had to do them without your help it would have taken many hours."
Great work guys! And big shout out to Carla who came along for her first GG task - A baptism of fire with a speedy session! 🎉🔥

Myself and two absolute heroes (Clare and Rebecca) gave up our Friday evenings for a couple of hours of flyering to let people know that SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN on Monday evening. He's going to be collecting for several local charities too so there was much Christmas cheer to be shared.
It was pretty nippy but oddly relaxing, jumping between the different houses. In the end we covered the entire route that Kris is going to take, barr a few houses at the end where we'd ran out of leaflets.
Hopefully loads of cash is raised and the kids and grown ups enjoy giving the reindeer and Santa a wave next week.

Dayum it's getting chilly! But that didn't put off seven absolute heroes from hitting the pavements and running to do some good. 🏃🥶♂️
Shout out to Freddie for joining for his first GG Bromley run - great to have you along!
Tonight after sharing our weekend highlights, we took a different route to normal (no park warm up today!) heading up to the Triangle via a mostly steady incline... (and a little sprint up the sharpest incline) to one of St Christopher's Hospice's charity shops. St Christopher's is the OG hospice that decided to start actually caring for people who were dying and they continue to this day as one of the world's leading hospices. 🏆
We were going to help to sort stock, divvying into bags of good clothes, bad clothes, kids clothes, shoes and gift-aided items. Teresa and Susannah showed us the system and we got cracking, and found some fantastic pieces (see pics), from sequined dresses to some organic Scandi mushroom-covered baby clothes. Hannah seemed to take a liking to a fancy batman(?!) mask.
We did a solid hour, partly fueled by water and coke, and then hit the road for an elongated journey home.
Ace work gang! 💥
Teresa and Susannah were so pleased that we'd managed to make such a huge dent in their piles of donations. What a great use of a Monday evening! 👍👍
See you next TUESDAY - we'll be flyering because Santa Claus is coming to town! 🎅🏻 Sign up here.
