Sheffield Report written by James Smith
Tonight five runners met Karen and some of the other pre-eminent Pitsmoor Pickers to de-litter the streets, specifically Rock Street and bits of Nottingham Street.
Upon meeting Karen, litter pickers, hoops and bags were distributed amongst us and we received a quick briefing of the areas to cover. We were to make our way methodically up Rock Street, occasionally venturing up side roads as needed, before cannily heading on to the can hot-spot of Nottingham Street. As we worked our way up the street we kept a special eye out for the glint of aluminium cans- which are separately bagged up to be recycled for cash. This cash is put straight back into the ongoing battle against litter by funding equipment for litter picking volunteers in the area. Many of the cans found had already been squished by cars, which made them extra tricky to pick up, but saved us having to flatten them ourselves. We had to kerb/curb our enthusiasm when spying rubbished that had fallen off the pavement and under cars, carefully watching out for traffic as we progressed ever upwards.
Bin there, done that!
After 45 minutes and a thoroughly solid effort from everyone involved, we piled up the full bags from the evening and posed for some photos before heading off on our merry way back down the hill into town.
When we arrived back near the Showroom we made use of one of the new university building's covered entrance areas to stretch off and debrief.
...And that's a wrap(per) for another week!

Well it wasn't as bad as last time..
We met at a very specific W3W location, with thanks to Dave for providing us all with the meeting spot and technical abilities to do so.
The original idea was to litter pick Kilton Hill which we did, but it wasn't as bad as usual so we got all the way to the top and were able to take a left downhill on Andover Street and do both sides all the way to the bottom!
Karen was collecting cans to take to be recycled and to earn some dosh to go back in to the Pitsmoor Pickers pot for other litter picking equipment for the future.
Thanks to all for coming out and Gavin we hope to see your partner out fit and well joining us in the future.
Until next time, happy running! :)

It was great to meet @Harrison who has moved up from Brighton to the bright lights and big city of Sheffield along with his partner who may join us on a future run. You're both very welcome.
Tonight we headed back to a litter hot spot just up the road from The Riverside pub.
We met Karen, Malcolm and Anna who were all getting stuck straight in. We were welcome reinforcements and got tooled up with bags and pickers and got straight to it flanking each side of the road in a litter picking pincer like procedure.
It felt as though the area was not as bad as it has been in previous visits which was great to see, but there was still plenty to go at.
After a good session and piling up all the bags in one place, ready for reporting to and collection by the council we headed back on a different route to add some variety and give our new GGSHF runner a glimpse of some other parts of the city.
Until next time, happy running :)

This week we headed back to ROCK ST to rock on with some litter picking of the area.
We met Karen to get bagged up and grab some pickers and got straight to it!
It really is starting to get cold out there now, so we kept it moving and thankfully were heading uphill to keep the internal radiator on.
After a good session on Rock Street we headed back down the hill to drop bags, grab a photo and return our equipment to Karen.
A great session once again and always lovely to support Karen with the constant efforts she puts in to keep the area clean and litter free.
Until next time, happy running! :)

Tonights task had us heading to Rock Street to meet Karen from Pitsmoor Pickers and some friends to help clear Rock St which can get littered up!
Once we found Karen who was already picking away, we got tooled up with bags, pickers and hoops and headed up hill on either side of the road, picking as we went.
Karen was on cans, so we collected seperate piles of these to be recycling in the future and cashed in to pay for other litter picking equipment.
At the end of the session Rachel very kindly offered us all some treats that were left over from her 100th Park Run celebrations at the weekend. They were DELICIOUS and very much appreciated, thank you again Rachel!
Until next time, happy running! :)

3 women ran to Pittsmoor. Met up with Karen and her friendly and helpful volunteers. There was fly tipping. sleeping bag and loads of cans, bottles and more rubbish. We found 2 pairs of shades , both in good working order for us to pose.

We met with the lovely Pitsmoor Pickers to strengthen their own numbers and fight the ongoing local battle against litter.
It was great to have local neighbours come out to thank us and see how they could get involved.
There were a few hot spots where people seemed to have essentially fly tipped a load of stuff, so it was good to get rid of these.
In a short space of time we collected a lot of rubbish that Karen will report for the council to come and collect.
Until next time, happy running! :)
