Competitive Flyering

Haringey Report written by Sarah Moore (She/her )

Tonight's task was an annual favourite: distributing flyers to advertise the wonderful Noel Park Festival.

First to arrive at GGHHQ was run leader Sarah, after having run from home in the heat to get there on time. When no one else had arrived by 6:45, Sarah made her way alone to meet task owner Rich, who was clutching a handful of flyers and wearing a suspiciously clean-looking red t-shirt. Welcome back to the fold, Rich!

Sarah had shared a 📍, and she was surprised by the arrival of Clare who hadn't signed up but just happened to be passing by, and decided helping the community was far preferable to a five minute fitness test run. Dave was next up, and just when we thought everyone else was super late Asan appeared.

We split into two teams of two, one each side of the road, with Rich going to flyer a smaller side street. Soon it turned into a little competition between Sarah and Asan on one side, and Dave and Clare on the other. Dave and Clare managed a narrow victory.

On the next street over, Mark appeared. Rich rejoined the group and now it was three on three. Sarah attempted to get a cat to join, but cats are not team players.

Meanwhile Latoya was somewhere in Noel Park trying in vain to catch up with our merry band. Alas, we were too quick for her!

Soon enough we had completed all of the target streets and it was time to melt away into the evening (quite literally perhaps, it's still very hot out there).

Today was a very enjoyable and meaningful day for me. I learned a lot from everyone at GoodGym. A big thank you to Dave, Rich, Clare, Sarah and Mark for your kindness, support and encouragement. Even though our contribution may seem small, together we are making a positive difference in our community. I would also like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who created and continues to run GoodGym. It is a wonderful organisation, and I am grateful to be part of it. ❤️

These Boots Were Made For Podcasting

Haringey Report written by Euclides Montes

Gramps joined Rich for this week's wellbeing walk in Russell Park and Belmont Park. A brisk pace was set by one of our regular walkers, while chat centred around postive podcasting and this week's theatre exploits by one of our walkers. Lovely.

A Rainstorming Session!

Haringey Report written by Euclides Montes

Two Goodgymmers defied the weather as they joined the Russell Park Wellbeing Walk for a good old natter.

Rain, rain, go away

Euclides joined Rich, who was leading today's walk. They were joined by some hardy residents who refused to give in to the weather and got to Russell's Hub ready for a good walk.

We then took on the Russell Park/ Belmont Park loop at a nice easy pace, while we all had a good chat about our choice of make up foundation and future plans for a longer walk.

After about an hour, we are back at base camp, in search of warmer settings.

The walk is currently looking for volunteers who can lead this route once a month or so. Get in touch if you fancy it!

Haringey Report written by Euclides Montes

11 Goodgymmers rooted for glory as they lent a hand at Floyde's Garden to help them prep the site ahead of a very special landscaping project.

Many hands...

With the recent passing of our GGHaringey Stalwart Nurjehan, the good folk at Floyde's Garden have kindly offered to host a tree planted in her memory, which will become the focal point of a brand new landscaped square for the gardens.

First order of business was digging up a number of deep-rooted dead trees and a multitude of brambles to create a blank canvas of sorts for the new planting scheme.

To that end, our Goodgymmers gathered at Blue House Yard where we kept warm with some light exercises, including introducing some of the new folk to the wonderful world of wall sits, before running a cool 2k to site together. Once at the gardens, we were met by Laurie - from Noel Park Big Local who look after the site - who talked us through the tasks at hand.

Before you knew it, we had lept into action and were digging and leveling to our heart's content.

We were also tasked with helping to rescue some bricks from the works on the adjacent playground so they can be recycled as a small plaza around Nurjehan's tree.

Within an hour our Goodgymmers had completely cleared the site and helped the pile of recycled bricks grow even taller so we had a little nosey at the progress on the playground works next door.

We then did the only reasonable things on a cold night like this and ran to the closest watering hole for much-needed refreshments.

We'll be at Traid next Tuesday and all being well, we should be planting Nurjehan's Tree on Wednesday - watch this space.

Great evening Eucs and fam but a shame the TWO wall jumping photos didn't make the cut - were they/we that bad? 😄

We Had Apparel Of Laughs

Haringey Report written by Euclides Montes

12 Goodgym Fashionistas vogued their way through the streets of N22 as they ran to help clothing charity Traid to get their shop floor ready for their winter collection.

Front Page Headliners

Big up to Hardcore Sam who joined us straight after a bout of the dreaded Covid bug and made the catwalk look more like a cakewalk. And it was her birthday this week to boot. Star.

Special mention for Becca too, who joined us for her first proper post-lockdown  group run. T'was like she never stopped. Boom.

Getting a Foot in the Dior

We were joined by GG legend Ivo last night so everyone was in their best behaviour - or at least we tried! Seriously, some of this lot you can't take anywear.

Anyways, we had a lopsided run last night as the good folk at Traid had been hard at work since 6 so we did a very short 1k run straight there so we could help.

Most of us arrived on time, whilst some unnamed Goodgymmers left it appropriately and fashionably late to arrive at the party. Some people will run 23 miles just to make an entrance - runners, eh?

At Traid, we got on with the familiar jobs of packing away the clothes and working out our frustrations with a bit of hanger management.

Gramps tried to put on some frilly purple pants but was fervently and physically talked down, on account of both Ivo and his mum being there for the task. I suppose we've found the line for our Haringey Goodgymmers.

After a very efficient 45 minutes, the team at Traid were gratefully ushering our rowdy lot out the door, but not before saying thank you and taking loads of pics with the team. Another prompt mission completed.

It was then a case of the Disappearing Goodgymmers during our long run back to base as one by one, people started peeling off home.

In the end, Kapil, Ivo, and Gramps made it back to HQ for High Fives. Ace.

Join us next week for fun and games!

It was a funny session, with a surprise visit. Yes, we did try very hard to behave.
