Windsor and Maidenhead Report written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner
Last night, Sophie and Anne Laure met at the community centre and set off for the 1.2km run to the task location whilst Jess and Jen were already en route walking. The other Goodgymmers all met at the task location of All Saints Church who mostly ran, walked or cycled to get there and we were greeted by Jo who was one of the Church volunteers and directed us on what we needed to do.
Our job was to remove ivy and bindweed from the fencings along the A4. There was a LOT and we spent an hour making it look a lot better and removing multiple bags worth into the church grounds which will be disposed of at the tip in the coming weeks. We also swept and raked to make the pavement look at clean as possible. Thank you Jess for remembering to take before and after photos!
It was a great evening with good company, thankfully only a bit of light drizzle and passers by thanked us for our efforts. Well done everyone!

Six heavy lifters aka GoodGymmers met at the Eco Action Hub to help clear out their old junk. It involved getting heavy and/or awkwardly big items down the stairs, out of small corridors and doors, up a very old elevator and into the skip.
In an hour, we'd cleared out most of the stuff. Great upper body workout!

Six enthusiastic Good Gymers set to work weeding beds and clearing bindweed at St Lukes school. Adam and Ben showed great perseverance using a trowel, fork and finally a large spade to dig a deep hole for a shrub. There were so many rocks but eventually all the new shrubs were planted and watered. Gill planted up some colourful pansies in smaller pots whilst Yesim and Roberta completed the weeding of other beds. Finally we cleared up and made our way home before dark!

10 Goodgymmers ran, walked and cycled their way to the beautiful Ray Mill Island on the shores of the Thames to help the Friends of Ray Mill Island sand picnic benches.
This fantastic new community group have taken on the task of looking after Ray Mill Island to help provide a more welcoming area for visitors. Goodgym have previsouly helped to paint the toilet block so a new mural can be painted to cheer the area up. Tonight the group were tasked with sanding the picnic benches to prepare them for a coat of varnish. This will help to maintain them and ensure they last for longer for people to enjoy.
We met task owner Nivi and other members of the Friends of Ray Mill Island group including new Goodgym recruit Dionne! (Welcome!. We were handed sandpaper and blocks and set to work. Although this sounds a simple task, it was no picnic. A great arm workout was in store and the benches began to spring into life.
After and hour of sanding and chatting 9 benches were ready for a new coat of varnish.
A Goodgym task would not be complete without a little fitness session. Tara had joined us and led us through a standing yoga session. This was a calming end to the evening in a quiet corner of Maidenhead.
